    Morning all:

And here I thought it was because we didn't discuss stock derivatives or Bored Ape Yacht Club NFT's, or cryptocurrencies on a daily basis. I'll stick to the morning coffee club chit chat on the porch, even the weather in different parts of the country is of interest, AT LEAST I CAN UNDERSTAND IT. :D
Good group on here with varied interests, pull up a chair on the porch, and thank you for your service.
BTW, your turn to fill the cooler!!!

:pccoffee: Good Morning Porch Pals & Gals! Have to make it to the Dentist at 10 for a filling rebuilt. I think the fog will let me get that far, and to the store. Quick errands, and then start with all of the stuff I ignored yesterday. Got home, and the computer started ordering stuff again!

Oh, and Happy Birthday @bucktales !!

You have to remember we are old and grouchy here on the porch. And, the coffee hadn't kicked in for me to process humor. :D:thumbsup:

Sounds like there might be some strong PA Dutch genes in your family from that part of PA. Lynn's mom is 95 and going semi-strongly - still living on her own.

Welcome to the porch! Now fill the cooler - as all new folks are required to do - and pull up a chair. It looks like it might rain. ;)

Interesting bit of family history there tandem, our family went from Scotland to Ireland and then to the colonies to escape the persecution of the Presbyterians by King James II, James Craig arrived in Philadelphia around 1699. Today there is no male in the lineage with the last name of Craig.
The last doctor in our family tree died in 1860, and I think more recently there was/is a veterinarian over in NJ who is related, does that count!
That old doc. wasn't too smart though, his obituary said he would accept goose feathers as payment!!!!!

I think that's the same area where my ancestor came from also tandem, think the history says Sterlingshire which I think is the same as Sterling.
Please don't talk like them though. when I once was told "there's a wee moose in the hoose", I definitely got confused :confused:, I just couldn't picture that!

After discovering by way of Ancestry.com that my heritage never had the famous folk that I was told it had, but does sport others previously unknown, I've done some thinking on the relative value of such knowledge in today's world. Given that many hundreds of my relatives living today are not in my life, never were, and a good many that wouldn't fit so well if they were, it doesn't make much sense to me to dwell on past generations that likely would not acknowledge me nor I them if somehow we were to come face to face in a time warp of some kind, it is my present thinking that all that I am is what I have made myself to be, in spite of or in accordance with my upbringing.
We all here on earth are related by way of mutual ancestors, so we all have bragging rights for some and skeleton closets for others. That some folks actively maintain connections to the past is interesting and laudable, but I've ceased to point with pride to accomplishments of my ancestors, as I've got precious little life left in me to ensure my own heritage, which realistically, will live only as long as I am remembered by those that outlive me.

Well, if we're throwing out famous relatives....my grandmother on my mom's side was a Carey. Tracing the line back through America has a tie to a land deal with Miles Standish and then to England where it traces to my 13th great grandmother - the wife of Sir WIlliam Carey....Mary Boleyn, sister on Ann and the earlier mistress if Henry VIII. During that time she gave birth to a son...named Henry but who was never admitted to be the child of the king. Of course, since it's a maternal connection it means nothing but it makes for a good story over a few drinks. I think I do kinda look like him, though.

My great great grandfather played major league ball and pitched a no hitter in the world series
IIRC… My grandfather was minor league and got hurt before majors.
Outside of that the family is full of drunks on all sides.
No interest in going back throughout that crap..

:pccoffee: Good Morning Porch Peoples! Mission today is to go pickup a used table and a couple chairs for the sons' pending apartment move. :fingerscrossed: The early grey is supposed to blow away and just be cloudy. Don't want to mess with rain.
Of course, this means I have to store it somewhere....:anonymous: But, it's a deal so we'll find a way.
Then, it should be nice enough to tackle some small items on the list, when I get home.
    Have a good 'un!

    Good Morning All.

I've told the story of my great 8x grandfather. Welshman from Pembrook, English laid ruin to the town. Family dispersed. Captured in 1650, Dunbar fought alongside the Scots. He was given a choice of being hanged or shipped off to work in the Saugus Iron Works in Massachusetts. My namesake.

My Golden Retriever is recovering fine after her ACL surgery on Monday. I had a PET scan Tuesday so arranged to pick her up Tuesday afternoon. To get me to "stop moving" is a mild sedative of 2mg of Xanax. I was out like a light, but unable to walk nor do much afterward. My wife has her own health issues, two kids, out of town on business trips, another had a crazy day. So she got her ex-husband to assist in getting the dog picked up and back home. I got up last night, happy to see cone head at my side, crashed back out, and finally woke up this morning.

I've been using Trainer Road to give me workouts, and track progress, on my cycling. I think I have a good reason for skipping yesterday's workout.

Need to get around to making a camping chuck box. Just handy for camping to keep everything in one spot, and last year's winter storms it was nice to have hot meals when the power went out for four days. My wife didn't like my cooking, but nothing like a hot meal.

All this ancestor stuff reminded me of a story. A buddy of mine was madly in love with a woman during college, to the point where he was planning to propose. She sensed it and decided she had to tell him the dreaded family secret; she was directly descended from John Wilkes Booth!
