Wow. I appreciate seeing this, but I have to say that I am totally disappointed if this is the alleged "4th generation" tacoma. It looks almost exactly the same as the current 3rd generation to me. I was hoping for something along the lines of the Hilux that is being sold elsewhere, as I don't understand why they have two model pickup trucks but only one is available here in the US. I would trade for a Hilux right now, especially if the gas mileage was better.

    yeah true.

I technically power my tesla with my home solar.

The average daily year round solar output is around 30kw*hrs / day (ish). I drive 50 miles a day lets say, which means 15 kw*hrs of demand from the tesla. So technically I can "power it off the sun". 30-15 = +15kw*hrs extra for home needs.

However.... the reality is (without back up battery) I will draw more than my panels are making (4,000 watts ave during the day) in that moment , live. I guess I could tell the tesla to only re charge at like 12 amps so what ever the panels are making can power the home and keep up with the charging tesla. But that would mean parking it all day while the sun is up and only driving at night lol. At 12 amps it might take like 6hrs or more to charge for 50 miles range a day.

realistically I just charge at max speed (32 amps) for 2 hrs or so. So during that 2 hrs I am buying from the utility because my solar can't keep up. Then when the car is all charged , I will be sending solar electricity back to the unity for the rest of the day at their shitty buy back rate (whole other story) . Over all the electricity bill is around $0 bucks net...but, I did pay $17K for panels and $55K for an EV ....soooooo hard to say you "save" just yet lol

true for the most part I think even the costly Rivain can work out for many people. The advantages it brings will make the lower than expected tow range seem acceptable.

They already exist in West Texas and they are hauling failed and damaged parts out of Robstown. The blades are the real problem also if you live along the coast and pay attention you will see them being worked on regularly. I like the idea of them but they also come with their own problems as they are not as green as some would like to believe....

It's actually a thing. The blades are exotic -- carbon fiber, epoxy, resin, etc. -- and end up in landfills.

I'm okay with that part. They also need to make it look like a truck so that people accept it emotionally. The shapes of current vehicles are due to needing a huge engine in front of the windscreen for 100+ years. We could be seeing badass Unimog-style e-trucks soon, but would most people in North America buy one?

I wish an eTacoma had been available in 2017. Yeah, some of my trips would have taken a little longer, but I'm not in a hurry when I'm away from home and work.

Maybe it's just me but I feel like the bed is like 4'6" or smaller. It really looks like it's just covering the wheels and that's it.

Can’t buy that unless they add some chrome to plasti-Dip.

For real it looks real nice, hope they add motor on each wheel so whole bottom is Flat like the Rivian. The ground clearance 4X4 drive control is cool on that Truck.

I'm wondering why we are having a serious discussion about design bucks and renders? This is Toyota floating ideas and aspirations for the eventual EV future. I wouldn't get either too excited, or too disappointed, about the possible details of ANYTHING there just yet.

I would but I bet that price tag will be eye-watering given what Rivian, Tesla, and Ford are up to.

The look is pretty nice, but I have a severe hatred of hybrid and electric vehicles. Even if it looks good, I will not be buying one.

That was what l thought too, looks like a disguised 3rd Gen with new Tundra headlights grafted into fiberglass fenders along with a flat panel laying on the roof. Windows are completely blacked out so you can't see the 3rd Gen interior too.

Thank you... as I read through this whole thread, I was wondering if I was going to be the first one to point out that these are concepts.

Now back to arguing about windmills.

I can't wait for the world to go totally electric on cars and trucks. That way this hot ass planet will cool down 1/100th of a degree.
