Should pistons and valves ever interfere even untimed?

If you have your timing chain no. 1 (long) off and there is no timing between the crank and the camshafts, should there be any combination of positions of the two at which interference between pistons and valves occurs? E.g. if you are randomly turning the crank and the camshaft, could it happen that an interference occurs?

I was under the impression that this engine was designed to never allow interference even untimed (meaning the lowest point of the valve should not even be able to go as far as to touch the piston in its highest) but then realized the valve might be getting pushed too deep in.

1GR i believe is an interference motor. It is not like the non interference motor previously in the 1st gens the 3.4L 5VZ-FE as that had a timing belt.

The 4.0L engines are an interference engine, the old 3.4L engines were not and used a timing belt.
