For those of you who travel out of the country with your kids, how does security know that the kids are yours based on a passport? My name nor my wife’s name is on the kids new passports.

What’s stopping some random person from snatching my kids with their passports and trying to leave the country?

    Interesting topic and subbed.

When we travel domestic, the TSA and gate agents will chat with the kids to see if anything is suspicious.

Parents greatest fear. I thought about that to some times; other then the kids being old enough to voice their opinion/concern and stay away from stranger you got to watch em like hawk. doubt any one will think twice about kids travelling with their parents unless red alert is issued in the area where you are; then authorities may be able to interfere based on knowing there is a situation

So two scenarios here that are really my concern.

    1) Someone grabs my kiddos and somehow gets their passports as well. TSA or any other airport security won’t know if the kids belong to the person with them.

    2) my wife has her original last name so her name doesn’t match the name on my kids passports. If something happens to me while abroad and my wife has to come home without me, will different last names on the passports be a problem?

I am really surprised that my passport and wife’s passport were used for the application of my kids passports (could have used birth certificate and ss card) but our names were not printed on their passports. This seems flawed. No one in the world should be able to travel with kids except for the legal guardians who applied for the kids passports. It would make sense that my name and my wife’s name would be on the passport.

We have no problems (wife kept her name cause mine is dumb but kids got my name so they can suffer.)

I pity the fool who takes my kids. I’ll kick back and enjoy the (certainly short) break.

Chances are much greater that the plane crashes than someone takes your kids and their passports through an airport TSA system or other port of entry and gets away with it.

Adding that I don’t like traveling with my kids…who ever likes to travel with young children is a real psycho

Reading about airlines losing track of kids (and some adults who need assistance), I would not depend on them for any type of checking documents even if they last names matched.

also, if you require the names to match, I’m sure you’d piss someone off anyways.
