    Hey guys,
New to the board but I've been surfing it for weeks. My wife has a 16 4runner SR5 4x4 which I really like but I do a lot of DIY and could really use a truck, plus I've always thought Tacomas were the perfect size truck for mixed use.

I'm thinking about waiting for the '18s to come out to buy a loaded TRD OR in cement and doing the below mods. I would really love to have a mini Raptor competitor in the form of a 350hp TT V6 Pro but I know I'm dreaming.

    Immediately:
17" SCS SR8 wheels (I know, they're tough to get)
255/75r17 Duratracs or Dynapros (I really like the skinny look)
    N-Fab nerfs
Morimoto HID conversion, if 18's aren't LED
Blacked out mesh grille or plastidip
    Plastidip badges
    Weathertech mats

    Soon after:
    Bed extender
30" LED light bar in bumper
    possibly 1.5" leveling kit

    End game:
    3" lift & 33"s

This will be my daily but I plan to do about 10% trails, regular hiking/camping trips, throw my mountain bike in the bed 1-2x/wk, plus plenty of Lowe's lumber runs; no plans for heavy mudding.

Always open to suggestions in my "immediate" category. Can't wait to make the switch, although I will miss the speed and handling of my stage 2 tuned 328i.

Welcome to TW, I also recently made the switch from the BMW game to the truck world. I've been a BMW only kind of person but always had a fascination for trucks and felt it was something I will always want to do. I recently sold my 2013 F25 and decided to pull the trigger on a 2017 Tacoma Pro. Ive enjoyed it so far, definitely a huge change but 'Ive had sooooo much fun with the truck. I've taking it camping quite a bit which is a huge passion of mine and I've always seen baja races and stuff like that. Recently researched tons on the overland community which will make camping that much more fun. Enjoy the vehicle when you pull the trigger and mod away. You can always come back to BMW eventually when the e30 M3 falls in price LOL

Welcome aboard! If it was me buying a new truck, one of the first things i would do is to get a nice set of seat covers like wet okoles, clazzios, or katzskins.

Glad to see I'm not the only weird one going from a luxury sport sedan to a truck.

@MNKSTER F30 328 Msport BMS stage 2 currently. Having come from 2 Subarus before, I'll probably pick up a WRX/STi project car later on. An M3 would be nice, but that AWD turbo platform is insanely fun!

Man, you were searching really deep, reviving this one from the crypts! Haha

The high level update is in my signature, but to give a little more detail, yes I bought the Taco, and sold it. I loved everything about the Tacoma EXCEPT how the engine & trans drove. Absolutely terrible engine/trans combo, so frustrating to drive because it has power but not where and when you want it. The tunes reportedly help but I had a tough time getting OVTune to work so I gave up on that and then when Carvana started paying crazy prices for Tacomas, I took advantage of that and sold it for almost what I paid.

I bought a 2015 Jeep Wrangler on 35's and that engine/trans drove so much better, even with 35's and stock gearing! However, I didn't like its handling and everything else that makes it a Jeep. I missed driving a Toyota.

I bought a 2013 GX460, and LOVE it! The V8 drives great, it handles very well, interior is great. My only complaint is the dated infotainment, but that's the story with all Toyota products.

I would recommend against buying the Tacoma unless you drive like a grandpa, have already done an extended test drive (weekend at least), and/or are prepared to tune & re-gear it. It's really a shame what Toyota did to this truck for the sake of an extra 1mpg, and the mpg's still aren't great but I don't care about that.

The only great reason for you to buy the Tacoma is really more about selling your BMW. Values are great right now so you shouldn't take a bath on it like you would normally.

Feel free to PM me with any other questions.

In that case, I hope you enjoy your new Tacoma, but don’t say you weren’t warned of the downfalls haha.

It sounds like you’ll love everything else about the truck, as I did.

Just stumbled across this thread... going from BMW to Tacoma must be contagious. I'm on the tail end of my own 3-year transition period for the same. I have a 2006 325Xi which I custom ordered in Jul 2005 (which is something that you can do for a BMW... but that's a different thread), which after I had it up to 230,000 miles I supplemented in Jan 2019 with a 2019 Tacoma Pro (all blacked out, of course). Have been dividing my time almost equally on the two vehicles since then, living in my personal vehicular Happy Space.

However, I just confirmed a few days ago that my 325's rear wheel bearings are shot and the rear brakes are not far behind (it is up to 259,700 miles now, so it's not like it owes me anything at this point), so I think I'm just going to limit my use of it to local errands to get it over 260,000, and then sell it to a wholesaler for them to repair & sell or scrap at their discretion.

Maybe I'll use the proceeds from selling the BMW to finally pull the trigger on getting a KD MAX PRO tune for my truck...
