While my high mileage '13 taco is sitting on jack stands as I replace bearings, brakes and calipers, I thought I would figure out the blower situation. The mode selector seems to have little effect. Generally air comes out of the defroster regardless of setting.

So this appears to be a servo controlled thing these days vs a vacuum thing from years gone by.

There appears to be three servos in the system, air source, blend and mode.

The names Toyota gives these in the parts manual is slightly different. I "think" it is 22 in the diagram.

Can anyone comment on this? Also, are there any aftermarket parts for this vs the dealer?

I am going to remove the servo (once you folks help me confirm the right one), clean/test/manually actuate to verify it is a control issue vs a blockage prior to replacing it.

Finally, the filter in the unit, is the air flow up from the blower, or down? I took out the filter without looking at the orientation.

My outside air intake is above the filter, which is above the blower.

Can't really tell in that diagram but here's pictures of their locations, airflow on the filter is down toward the blower motor.
@Jimmyh probably knows the part number for it.
Left one is mode, center one is recirculate

    Lower one is Temp

Thanks...post #60 has a great image. It appears there is no aftermarket part for this. I will pull mine out today if it warms up enough to go outside and my calipers do not show up!

That's actually a very common size on vehicles these days.

7/32 did it. Removed servo. Actuates fine. Heater mode door lever/wheel appears gummed up from dusty roads (lots of cabin dust). I got it working by manually actuating it, but it needs to be removed and cleaned. I will add that to the task when I remove the lower dash for some wiring work coming up.
