I was debating this for some time. Now I got some time. So I might as well throw my hat in the ring and track progress with this Klunker :transformer:

I started wheeling with a 2nd gen taco, then into 5th gen 4Runner. But after an ill fated winter wheeling adventure where I popped through some ice and proceeded with every electrical issue known to man.. I quickly decided I wanted less electronics, and less vehicle. It’s apparent that I wanted something lighter, cheaper, and ultimately just older vehicle for wheeling trips.

Fast forward to January of 21, with COVID in full effect and my life from working abroad turning into a nightmare. I found this gem, test drove it immediately. Found a ton of things wrong, but the guy was super negotiable. I drove this thing away for 4500$ Canadian.

    General taco
    2001 Tacoma trd

    Armour / Recovery
    All Pro Apex front bumper
Trail Gear rear tube bumper. With custom tire swing out & 4x innovations hinges
    All Pro Sliders. Welded on
Warn VR10k winch with synthetic rope.

On to the pictures and my progress through the year.

First things first, I ordered up the OME lift kit, Wheels & Tires, Allpro front bumper, Warn Winch, and EBay Dorkel.. as well as my first version of this custom topper rack.

The truck had a new frame in 2016, however the truck bed was horrendous underneath. One day while bored in camp in the middle of Saudi Arabia, I found a silver bed for sale in British Columbia. About 1400 Kim’s away. Quickly I checked Uship.com and found someone willing to deliver it for 300$!! #winning. When I got back, I dove into replacing that. As well as installing a trail gear rear bumper. A few weeks later I put on a new tailgate that I had painted. Plus a good friend of mine welded up a swing out for me.

I’ve installed a Cascadia hood mounted solar panel and MPPT charging system. As well decided in the process that I wanted to have my RTT lower, so that meant getting different bars for my rack and removing my canopy for summer months.

also had my All pro sliders arrive, so naturally we burned some metal and got them installed.
