True, I did just the 6x9 replacement and that improved things immensely, but I did occasionally get a little muddiness from the 6.5s in the rear until I adjusted the fader more to the front. The following day was warmer so I replaced the 6.5s an added Noico to the rear door. I also installed foam speaker baffles behind the 6.5s to keep any moisture from dripping on them. I cut holes in the bottom of the baffles for airflow. Readjusted the fader to neutral and sounds great for streaming and better for radio. I got a set of Kicker 2 3/4" tweeters for the front doors. I soldered the capacitors (bass blocker) to them last night and this weekend I'll replace the front door tweeters with the Kickers and install baffles behind the 6x9s (and Noico if it is warm enough).

No, if audio quality is what you are after, then I think the speakers are probably the biggest increase in sound quality. I am looking at a HU upgrade, but more for the features than a sound quality boost. My stock HU is the base non-Entune 6" flat screen with just AM/FM/CD/BT - no GPS, no APPS, no XM.

I have an access cab so I didn’t need to deal with the back. Mine was pretty simple because I bought the 6x9 that also had a tweeters built in. I didn’t even mess with the factory tweeters. I was amazed how much better it sounded. A small area like the AC , those speakers were plenty.

I did the Sundown SA series in mine. I’ve heard the Focals and they are definitely bright. I wanted a little more mid bass than they offered but for a direct replacement they are hard to beat if you don’t feel like messing with adapters.

The Focals are pretty pricey as well. I feel like you can get more speaker for less money just because of direct replacement. It’s convenient for sure but not for everyone’s budget
