Yes, it happened to me this week...and corrected itself next time I turned it off & on—
Thanksgiving NOW, it is happening as we speak (not really I pulled over in a Starbucks). We’ll see if it is still inoperable cruise control when I leave.
I’m DEFinitely bringing it up at my first regularly scheduled service. Oh—once I squirted the windshield and ran wipers and that turned it off (the warning light). Which makes NO sense, as it’s never happened in the rain.
Good luck. So far, I’m starting to get a bad feeling, all this technology, a lot to go wrong. (I came off a Jeep with window crank handles to open a window, on a 2015 Wrangler—how quaint—I had a child of ten say Wow! I never used one of these before!). But no tech got old quickly, too.
Plus—by saying they only want five stars on a review, my dealership has indicated they actually do not want any feedback, just a series of meaningless five-star ratings lined up. I’m giving them one more chance in my 1st 5,000 mile six-month maintenance, them I’ll drive one town away for ALL future service if they do not immediately do everything right on the first try. Not usually a pr*ck—I’m easygoing, but after a small issue I had to make five visits to service. They finally offered a rental on visit four—I’m done.
Since my review was not five stars—I did not complete the survey they sent. For reals, they make it clear that’s the only choice, 5 Stars, or BAD are only two choices.

You should definitely bring it up
It happens to me lately too. They told me to check the sensor on the front bumper, not the camera on the windshield top center. I didn’t know there was another one, but until I find it, I’ll hold the cruise control for two seconds as others here recommend! (Lots of tech/lots to go wrong!)
Best luck, friend! I’m still saving my pennies: before spring, Nitto Ridge Grapplers on new alloy wheels on a Bilstein shocks 3” lift

I'm just wondering if anyone has ever had this happen? I checked up front and didn't notice anything on the radar so no idea what caused it. I have my first appointment on August 6th and wonder if it is worth bringing up.

    Thanks for the assistance.[/QUOTE]

This just happened to me tonight. Exactly like yours. And my TPM wasn't displaying any tire pressure info. Did you find out the cause?

I have a 2018 TRD offroad... I have driven over 1k miles on cruise control, have had mud and bugs on the emblem, through light rain, heavy rain, snow, all times of day. Never have had a single issue mentioned here so far, and never had a message telling me to clean the sensor. Toyota needs to fix that for you guys.

Heads up with the cruise control... turn it off before attempting to change lanes. Damn radar made me brake check someone I was passing when someone in the right lane cut in front of me.

I've only had it do that in a torrential downpour. Rain bad enough where we were all going 35-40 in a 65 because you just couldn't see.

Never found out the cause. It has happened a couple of times since and still no idea what caused it. The dealership said that unless it actively happens while they have it I would have to pay for them to troubleshoot. It hasn't been bad enough that I'm willing to do that.

The dealership replaced my sensor within the first 2000 miles I had the truck. I had tss issues frequently regardless of the weather. I haven't had any issues since the new sensor and I've put about 14000 miles on since then

How often is this suppose to happen? Had my 19 almost a month now and it says “unavailable - clean sensor” intermittently every other time I drive. I figured it was just really finicky technology but sounds like I need to take it back now that I’ve read this thread.

Now that someone resurrected this, it's pretty funny (in a sad way) to see how Toyota is finally getting around to half-assed solve this problem (if you were smart enough to not want to change your tires...) a year later.

I'm resurrecting an old thread. 2018 TRD Sport 33,000 miles. Light comes on and pre-collision turns off almost every time I drive it. I took it to the dealer. They drove it up and down the street and couldn't repro it. They told me to come pick it up and bring it back if he happened again. I showed up, turned out of the service bay, went 15' and the light was back on. I could still see the front door of the service department. Sigh.

They ordered me a new radar. It should be in on Tuesday.

My 2018 does this when it’s raining or just after a rain.

I’m not sure it’s the sensor obstructed but maybe just poor wiring insulation preventing water from getting into the harness. Maybe just electrical tape the shit out of the harness and wires or apply sealant? radar waves shouldn’t get blocked out by a film of water on the sensory, I don’t think?

Isn’t there a recall for this?

Radar wave sensor recall addresses this…

    ********************************
    Title
SPECIAL SERVICE CAMPAIGN K0B (Remedy Notice) - Certain 2018 – 2019 Model Year Tacoma and Tundra - Millimeter Wave Radar Sensor
    Status
    Remedy Available
    Description
The involved vehicles are equipped with a Pre-Collision System (PCS) that may automatically apply the brakes if the system detects a potential collision. Due to the mounting of one of the system’s sensors, it is possible for water to enter the sensor. This can lead to PCS deactivation or inadvertent brake activation resulting in limited deceleration for a short duration of time.
    Remedy
Any authorized Toyota dealer will update the PCS software and apply sealer to the millimeter wave radar sensor in the front grille. In the rare case that the vehicle is currently exhibiting the condition, dealers will diagnose the sensor and replace the sensor, as necessary, FREE OF CHARGE.
