FOUND: My truck was stolen last night- Fxck!

I used to cut one of the started wires on my old vehicles and wire it to a kill switch
Saved my 84 mustang gt covertable
Can you still do this on newer vehicles?
Cheap and easy
They would have to find the switch to start it

 

I've had the Club in the past. I last bought a Blueshyhall Car Steering Wheel Lock (on Amazon). I think it's a little more secure by its design, and smaller to store.

the last time I owned a "Club" was in Abilene, TX 1993-1999 when I owned a 1994 Isuzu Rodeo. It's probably somewhere in my HHG (House Hold Goods) boxes in the attic. lol

I don’t know all the specifics but if you place an AirTag in your vehicle and the person who steals your vehicle has an iPhone (which is highly probable), won’t his phone alert him that an AirTag is following him? I guess that’s a good thing and maybe the thief will ditch the truck but maybe they would do something drastic thinking they don’t have much time? Also…I saw someone mention the Club anti theft device. I saw a video back in the day where someone sawed through the steering wheel and pulled the club out in less than 5 seconds.

 

I had a 150 DC for several days back when I was getting the frame coating. Not terrible per se but way more than I need.

Or maybe a Chapman lock if they're still around.

 

It’s the harness under the dash. From what I understood it’s often damaged on stolen vehicles so HOPEFULLY it will be available. He said it had to come from Kentucky.

 

it’s just adding another layer for them to work past. No it’s not a guarantee but it’s a deterrent to hopefully get them to move on to an easier target.

 

Motivates me to make some type of "shield" to cover this harness. (Think CAT theft prevention shield.)
Maybe just a thick sheet of HDPE with funky bolts. (Locking, uncommon, proprietary, etc. type as I would want to have access at some point.)

Thought this route would preclude having to move the OBD port -- since they cut the harness beyond the port (and don't make use of the OBD port itself). But then, if the harness was NOT accessible, they might make use of the OBD port. I guess I'd have to install a dummy one after all.
Which also makes me wonder if a hidden kill switch would be up-line or down-line of the harness cut (making it worthless). I'm not a thief so I don't know where this harness cut is made.

Just realized that (for all I know) this harness cut could also possibly be done under the hood. Maybe??? Damn computer operated machines...

 

After reading through this thread I thought that if I couldn’t stop a theft, I could at least put an Air Tag in my vehicle for some tracking. The tag arrived yesterday and after a little research into how it works when moved, I removed the speaker. Any unregistered iPhone moving with the tag (but without my iPhone close by) will get an alert but the Air Tag will remain silent and (I hope) in a spot that’s hard to find.

Surprising how many iPhones are passing by my truck as it sits in my building’s underground parkade. I’m guessing that folks are just driving past going in and out and the tag has a good signal.

Next thing I want to do is take my wife’s iPhone for a drive and see for myself how it reacts to the tag.

12:30, I left my iPhone at home, brought the wife’s and took a drive to the store. Joyce kept track of my whereabouts on my iPhone at home and discovered that the tag does not update in real time even though there was an Apple phone in the same vicinity. Took about 10 mins to get the last location of the truck. Not perfect but would do in a pinch if a would be thief had an iPhone.

Also, no reaction to the tag from Joyce’s iPhone so the tag remained anonymous. Don’t know if that’s because her phone and mine are on a sharing set up. Have to try this out again with a friend’s phone with the intent of seeing what a would be thief might see on his phone while making off with my truck.

 

UPDATE: After a month and a half I get my truck back at 2pm today!

This thread makes me pretty happy about where I live. If you wanted to steal my vehicle right now, you'd have to get in it (not hard because it isn't locked) then you'd have to push the start button (which would work because I left the key fob in it). Of course, my phone would ring as soon as you drove away, because one of my neighbors would start to wave at me, see you in my SUV and call me.

That club does look like it would be as effective as anything. If you lock your wheels all the way to the side it would even make it harder to get on a rollback.

 

You owned an Isuzu in Abilene Texas? They don't allow foreign vehicles in Abilene Texas. The town is run by a buncha' Baptist church-lady types who all drive a Caprise or a Crown Vic, and they control everything with an iron fist. They surround and witness to people that own foreign vehicles in Abilene Texas, then they lay hands on them and pray for their deliverance. I once drove a Triumph TR-6 to take a college roommate home to Abilene. It was all a blur: one minute I'm surrounded by Baptist Hari-Krishna-types chanting baptismal mantras and force-feeding me snickerdoodles, the next minute I came to and I was wet, speaking in Tongues and handling snakes...

 

I spoke with the guy in charge of the repairs again here and they see lots of theft damage and he said the club does work. It’s what they recommend. No it’s not 100% but it’s another layer and it’s hard to remove quickly without damaging something.

 

Everyone needs to start hiding Apple air tags in their trucks and let the police catch and arrest them. less than $50 and you will get your vehicle back. One thief steals many, many trucks. Once enough people use them the thieves will move on to easier crimes.

Everyone needs to buy those club steering wheel locks, that's the best anti theft solution!
P.s. I have one and lock my steering wheel every night!

 

Could always do what I do with my Porsche overnight. Take a spare relay for the fuel pump, open it, strip out the guts so the circuit will stay open, and then seal it back up.

Truck won't start and their won't be a missing relay for the thieves to pick up on.
