Time for another oil change on my 2017 and I have my Mobil1 0w-20, but I have a question on the filter. every single Mobil1 oil filter for the Tacoma (and some other brands including Toyota OEM filter) on the shelves no longer has the end caps on the filter. I thought those were somewhat important? I heard something about Mobil 1 filters have started being made by Fram or another company. But who currently makes a high quality oil filter with the end caps? Napa gold? Amsoil? Royal Purple?...
    Please let me know, thanks

As @YotaGangYotaGang said, go with the Toyota one. The WalMart near me has them on the shelves, and Amazon can get them to you quickly.

I've seen them as cheap as $3, in the past.

Are there any filters that do have the end caps?

The TRD filters do. The Tacoma takes the same filter as my tC and those caps are the main reason I run them. I've heard K&N makes these for Toyota, but I don't have any sources to back that up.

2.5l in the tC. 3.5l in the Tacoma. Only has 1000 miles on it so far, but the vehicles sharing some parts and fluid types makes my stocking better. What's so bad about the oil change on the Tacoma?

    Nothing really.

Folks can't seem to handle a cartridge though.

The main deal is that dealer techs over tighten them, but reinforced nylon cartridges are good for a life time of use. BTDT.

Ahh. Yeah that's what it looks like lol. Same exact setup on my Scion (2.5l Camry motor). It's messy but significantly better than Mazda cartridge filters. These 2 vehicles using the same setup makes me even happier I bought the filter tool 6 years ago.

I haven't seen a Mazda cartridge, but our Volvo had no helpful flutes to grab. Still, 10 oil changes and no issues until the rest of the car started to fall apart.

Messy, but it is easy to get a look at the media. If you cut a canister apart, it is a similar or worse mess. At times, I think that there are a bunch of folks here who have never wrenched on a car before.

I always ordered the OEM ones from Amazon, I never even paid attention to this. OEM seems like safe bet.

Lmao oh boy, I'm pretty sure he was directing that question to the OP . But he's probably referring to the fact on the 3rd gen Tacoma V6 has the oil filter housing vs the 4 cylinders have a more traditional spin on filter, which neither is a big deal.

    This.
Maybe. Quotes help lol. The way I see it my truck does not need jack stands which already makes it easier than my coupe that's been lowered 3" lol.

I had no idea that you could get the toyota ones at walmart. I'll have to check that out.

I was surprised to see them there.

They have some other common OEM oil filters there also.

I don't recall the prices as I already had some at home.

The only problem with the V6 oil change on the 3.5 is after owning a 2nd gen 4.0. Not rocket science but more involved.
