Is running this on Mac via Parallels still not recommended (or guaranteed disaster)? Just curious if anything has changed in the past couple few years. I do have an old Windows 7 laptop that I could dust off if need be.

No support changes ever published. If you have Win7 around just save yourself and use it  I am sure the Mac setup will work as others have used it but you can ensure 100% compatibility with your truck with what you already have...just charge it up!

I was using bootcamp. Unfortunately the new Mac laptop chips won't do it.

Can’t just be simple eh. Got VFT and TS on my old laptop and now I have black screen of death. Coincidence or has anyone else had issues with their computer after installing the software(s)?

Never had any problems with TS/VF on my laptop setups. Reinstall VF and see how it goes then try TS?

I almost ditched everything at once but decided to try and be semi-scientific about it and just started with uninstalling VF only, which solved the blackscreen of despair. Downloaded a fresh installer for VF, deleted the old one, and I'm ~4 restarts and shut-downs in without an issue. But I'm not sure how much this should or shouldn't rattle my confidence in my rig here..

While we all have our own level of comfort, in 3+ years and what is now well over 3,000 flashes I have never had a software issue cause any Windows error or worse something to a truck. It's a best practice to set an exception in any AV/security software so the vftuner.exe file is not blocked or forcefully removed. Not saying that was your 'black screen event' but it can certainly kill the .exe. I just wanted to mention that to help you ensure no issues. I would expect that the once you install then attempt to start up VFTuner that it would knock it out if it was going to at all.....kinda the point of what those tools should do.

I’d never had one, and honestly didn’t even know black screen was a “thing” until I attempted to search this error, and I’ve been peering through Windows since about ‘95.

No AV or anything on this one outside of whatever is built in Windows - anything to disable there?

Windows Defender can get in the way but if you are not getting blocked now I would not have any concerns personally. You really just need an exception if it stops the app from running. I've worked with a ton of remote owners using their own laptops and only about 10% of them needed an exception. Most were older Windows 8 systems or those with a 3rd party tool like Norton/McAfee setup.
