My tire just blew out on the highway. I go under to get the spare an see this. What is up with this? Anybody else experience this? How do I get it off?

    That's just the holder.

Use the tools to drop it from the spare tire kit. The hold is above the license plate.

    Be safe.

Read the instructions inside the jack wrench bag - there are pictures, too. There's a screw hole under the bed above the license plate that you turn to lower the entire chain and spare tire. It's actually pretty easy once you find it.

Just had to use it AGAIN on Friday because no one knows how to keep steel scrap out of the road around here.

Stock wheels and suspension. Random "utilitarian" mods featured on this great forum.
Looks like you're half way there with the rods assembled (lower left in last picture). Just shove it in the bum-hole and turn counter clockwise as one of the pictures showed. Hopefully it's not seized. Last ditch effort, call a friend or roadside.

Figured it out guys. Thanks for the help. I was just panicked a bit, but remembered the mechanism to lower the spare. Appreciate the help and the laughs.

Now is a good time (start of winter) to spray some lubricant on the tire lowering/raising mechanism.

A couple of tips for you to make your life a little easier.

When you store the spare tire, after lubing the mechanism, make sure the valve stem is facing the ground and oriented near the rear bumper. In the future when you are checking tire pressures, it will be very easy to slip under the bumper to check the pressure in the spare. Set the spare pressure the same pressure as the tires on the road.

Very disturbing to have a flat, spend the effort to put on the spare, lower the truck then discover the spare is flat.

I’ve owned 6 pickups all with the same spare tire mechanism, but I’ve only used it a couple times due to good luck and the fact that it was so rusted that I kept my spare in the bed. After buying my 2020, I had to relearn how to use it, but in my buddy’s driveway with limited stress. :)
