Can anyone tell me if this is the regular taco tick or if it is possibly something more. Recording at driver front wheel. That is where it seems loudest 2010 4.0 with 38,000. Oil level full and 700 after change. Definitely sounds like valvetrain noise. This is slightly below operating temp, but it doesnt change a whole lot when warm. Yeah that's the taco tick. My truck does the same exact thing and has since I bought it. Something to do with the valve lifters if I remember correctly. The sound is exacerbated on a cold start for me until I get about 750 RPMS.

Currently at 96k miles and no issues.

Never could understand why my 05 never had the tick. I once suggested that maybe, just maybe, Toyota knew that most people would never have the valve lash checked as the mileage increases and that valves usually get tighter as time goes on. So they may set the lash at the factory on the high or open side to begin with thinking they will tighten up eventually.

A number of other ideas have been passed on also. One had something to do with another external valve body that needed a gasket or an "O" ring to quiet things down and of course there is always the injectors going clack clack too.
