What radio update are you referring to? Assuming you mean your Toyota head unit, what year Tacoma do you have and when did the update come out? Right now I have to reboot my Carlinkit about once a week.

It does work with one caveat. If you leave it on the wireless charger for a long time, while running wireless CarPlay, the phone tends to heat up, which can then cause CarPlay to have stuttering and crashing issues. I’ve only run into this on long road trips though.

Wireless CarPlay uses both Bluetooth and WiFi.This is why a radio with wireless CarPlay needs a WiFi antenna built in.

I have one - I'd say it works about 90% of the time. Every so often it doesn't boot and I need to either reconnect the USB or restart the infotainment thing just hold the volume knob for a few seconds. Mine is still dangling but if it was hidden the power cycle would be a lot easier than reconnecting the USB.

I will say - I have two phones. Work and personal. And I DO think a lot of the issues and problems I've had with it may be from having those multiple phones connected to it.

But yeah it's great. I leave my key and phone in my pocket and get in and go and have car play.

Heads up - it does drain the battery pretty quick. My commute is 15 minutes no big deal but longer drives for camping or whatever - power cable is needed.

Oh and last thing - it initiates the connection via Bluetooth and then switches to WiFi for the carplay. If you have a WiFi dash cam using the same idea - WiFi for data transfer - it can be annoying to connect to what is needed. When I need to connect to my camera I just unplug the carplay adapter entirely.

Mine was about 100$. If I had to do it again - I'd look at doing the whole head unit first so it works with both Android and apple, has more features etc. However some of the great head units are like 750$. So this was a great middle ground or interim solution if I do eventually end up deciding to go to a whole head unit swap.

I just posted but I have the same thing happen time to time. You can just hold down the volume knob which restarts the infotainment system. Don't need to power cycle the engine.

I received my car link unit today. It was relatively easy to set up. I’m returning it because compared to being wired, I found the sound to be pretty horrendous. A step up from Bluetooth but definitely a big step down from being wired. Also every time I start the truck it comes up with the screen asking me how to pair it.

I cannot speak to the sound, which I find acceptable, but the pairing screen eventually goes away, as it connects automatically. I love mine.

It goes away meaning each time you start your vehicle or that start up screen will stop permanently? Mine just sat there and hangs until I press on it

It’ll show a connection screen but connect automatically. One thing to try though is to make sure you forget the Bluetooth connection to the truck itself. For whatever reason it seems to interfere with the wireless CarPlay connection if you’re also connecting to the truck via Bluetooth.
