What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

You're not making that up for sure.

ECGS had both ARB and Harrop lockers available when I bought mine.

I told them "money no object" and was recommended the Harrop.

They've never heard of one fail, ever.



Too bad I never installed it.

I did buy it for the Taco, but I could've put it in the 4R.

That's when I decided I'd build an LC when I get my hands on one.

The 4R is done enough once I get the other goods installed.

 

I’m only seeing half this conversation, but I have also had no issues with my ARBs in ~7 years and 100k miles. Front locker, rear locker in the stock axle, and now the locker in my 9.5” rear.

If there is another, equally reliable option in the Harrops, that’s great. I don’t see a need to rag on others for their choice (especially considering that the Harrops didn’t even exist when a lot of us started building our trucks).

 

Good choice on the "one side".

My ARB compressor gave up the ghost earlier this year. But it had a hard life and I don't fault it for only lasting 7 or so years.

 

I like my ARBs. They make me go up things.

 

I know a guy that had a Tacoma built and sold it to build an LC

I'm sure Harrops are reliable, but they have a 'feature' where if you roll back they disengage to theoretically protect driveline components. From what I've read, that can result in them not locking right when you need them. There's a video about it somewhere.

 

Yea, I’ve seen the decals. I know mine had badges (cause I ripped em off haha) just little not-really-problems that i want to pour more time and money than they’re worth into.

People start a discussion and then when someone has an idea, theory, reason why to do it other than the way a certain group of people do it, they all start chiming in and then say the other person is ragging, or arguing.

I literally answered the question. But the thing is, it was a rhetorical question, and no one really wanted the answer to the question. Because there ARE legitimate reasons "why" someone would look to the Harrop over the ARB.

But the popular group think doesn't want to hear that. And any opinion that doesn't coincide with the popular group think is considered ragging or arguing... because apperantly we must..

No one is ragging or arguing. A question was asked, then answered. Multiple counterpoints were made and a discussion ensued... you know? The thing discussion forums are supposed to do.

but another for arb/Yukon zip lockers. I’ve had e lockers, Detroit/auto lockers, Detroit and arb and now all air lockers and I’ll never go back.

elockers require some movement to engage where an air is almost automatic. My dads been running arbs for close 10 years with nothing wrong besides a solenoid that got dust in it after 1500 mile round trip of dirt roads a few years ago. I kinked a line this year but that was my fault for bad routing.

Besides the hassle of mounting a compressor, the benefits of an air locker out weigh any benefit of elockers in my opinion.

 

I like my factory elocker

even if I have to roll back and forth to make it work.

 

I've had issues with my ARB sealing up and locking. Sent it in to be fixed and now 3 years later it'll leak 60% of the time. I likely won't by another before giving an elocker a shot.

 

me just day dreaming of ordering all the fancy things I want from ECGS. 4.88's and an ARB locker at the top of the list.
