So I call my Stealership to schedule my last ToyotaCare appointment for my Tacoma and they tell me I have two recalls on my Tacoma - Fuel Pump and TSS Sensor. I tell them I've had 0 issues with either one but they insist they'll do both at no charge. I said okay that's fine, but I have a lot of modifications to the vehicle up front (Pro Grill, Raptor Lights, behind the grill light bar) and it's all stuff I've done myself with no issues for two years. They say that's fine, we work around modifications all the time. This was Friday.

So yesterday I drop it off and they have it for 5 hours. I get the call, my truck is done and everything is done except for the TSS sensor recall. Too many modifications to the front end they said. I told them that I asked about this and they said they could still do it on Friday. I also said if you give me the new part I'll replace it myself, not hard at all. Would take 20 minutes... can't do that either. So I say okay, whatever it's fine and just shrugged it off cause honestly I've not had any problems whatsoever with my truck and the recall has been out for months.

Pre-Collision System error on my way to work this morning.

What would you guys recommend I do? Should I take it to another Dealership? The one in my hometown is the one where I drop it off and where this story took place but it's not the one I bought it from. I thought about maybe calling the place I bought it to see if they'll honor my recall.

Also thought about just buying one and replacing it myself but I have no idea where to buy them from and I know they're probably a couple thousand dollars.

What advice does anybody have on this, I'm pretty pissed and skeptical this would happen the day after they told me they'd do it and suddenly could not.

Well, it's not been fixed under the recall yet so I'd go for that angle.

A few OE parts from fancy trucks
Put the OE grill back in, lights unhooked. Have the recall done. Drive it a while to verify all is well, swap back later.

The recall is just a piece of foam tape on the upper half of sensor, for water proofing. Kind of a half ass fix, and a reprogram. If truck is modified, as in grill, lift, they make up sign a waiver. They will shut the off, when returning it to you. That what they did with mine, turned it back on.

I already have silicon around the back edges of the sensor cover, I did that myself. Is there a way I can reprogram it myself?

If they give you a hard time about your Pro grill...
tell you they have to deactivate it,
or it won't work, sign a waiver....

    give them this part#

    PTR13-35210

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/toyota-trd-oem-lift-kit.695620/

Toyota sells a lift kit with the Pro grill,
so when they gave previous people a hard time about Pro grills and lifts and deactivated their radar and made them sign a waiver... they were full of shit.

How do I test me tss is working properly with the trd pro grille mod? I haven’t had any pre collision alerts or breaking happen but I want to make sure it’s working. When I’m on the trails and am aired down, I get the tss off light sometimes. Is that because the truck is jumping around on the trail? Or because dirt is getting between the garnish and sensor? I turn the truck back on later and the tss off light on the dash goes away.

Turn your adaptive cruise control on while driving on the highway. If you rear end the car in front of you, it's safe to say it's not working.

Not aired down on trails, but after taking my TRD OR DC 2021 in for my first 5000 miles service (and a needed realignment - it was off the day I drove it from the lot in another state), now suddenly on dirt roads it's come on twice (the collision sensor "off" warning light) or more. Restart truck later and sometimes warning light is back off, or back on pavement it will go back to normal- WTH? Again, it never came on till after dealer visit - no software update was listed on what they did - Also ,oddly, I had NEVER got the Lane Departure warning "not working when below 32 mph" - now I do - huh?
