Need 285/70/17 H/T tires...

Big lift on my 1st gen, 17 inch rims. I currently have 285/70/17 Cooper Discoverer STT Pros, they are loud and ride real rough. I never offroad. I need a comfy tire because I am about to drive cross country. I will not go down on tire size, although this current size rubs at full lock and if there was a way to get rid of that, like smaller width while keeping the sidewall size (285/65/17) I'm open to that.

What is a good H/T tire? Bridgestone Dueler H/T 685 $234.99 at Costco? Would going to an A/T tire be that much of an increase in noise over an H/T?

 

I have 285 70 17 KO2s in C load 51 lbs, they are great tires. Some give them a hard time but I have had no complaints using them. Good performance, look good, tough and still get good mpg. I picked up some brand new ones off a Jeep guy that bought bigger tires right away - he bought 37s in the STT Pro so I got all 5 of them for cheap.
Here is list of other tires 285 70 17 in SL which will work fine for you. or a 285 65 17

I can relate when you say you don’t want to downsize. I just put my 265 70 17 winter tires on and I really don’t like the way my truck looks now. Practical yes for winter but 285s and my SCS wheels look way better.

 

If you want a tire that rides like a HT but has a more aggressive sidewall look like a AT/MT get the Cooper Discoverer ATP II. It is a discount tire exclusive and they have them in 285/70R17. I have them on my truck in LT285/75R16 and they are super quiet and do great in wet and winter weather.

 

Why TF do people put M/T on trucks they never take offroad?

 

My Nitto Ridge Grapplers in C load are quiet and smooth af. They are an R/T tread so they look aggressive without feeling aggressive. They're also one of the lighter options for a C load tire. Mine are brand new though, so no long term review here, but so long as your alignment is in spec and they wear evenly they should not develop too much noise as time goes on.

You can also sound deaden the truck and that will cut down on exterior noises.
