Whitson made a better roof rack for twice as less money for us to buy as Gobi and they got butt hurt about it. Gobi must have read the threads where everyone was talking about buying Whitson racks for a lot cheaper than Gobi. They took Josh to court over it and shut him down because he couldnt afford the legal fees to fight it. Now they can charge twice as much for their roof racks. I'll never buy anything from Gobi again

Whitson copied Gobi’s patent and rack design. Gobi is not the bad guy.

Well, in this photo showing a whole 6 square inches of rack, I see a light bar in a position where Gobi would have diagonal bracing preventing the placement of said light bar. A top rail that transitions to sides using a curved 90* angled downwards, whereas Gobi has both shapes combined into a swoop, coming from a higher dimension. And I see a CUSTOMER-BUILT fairing blocking most of the rack. For future searchers, this is where that image comes from - Not a great pick for an example of infringement, although to be fair, in reading about this case I looked around quite a bit and have yet to see a single one.

I thought there was a smoking gun in the lawsuit when I read the lawsuit cap here - - then went back and read the text above it, and yup, those are both Gobi racks, and absolutely implied is that they're a side-by-side of the infringing vs the infringed, which is exactly what I got out of it before reading the text. Then there's the smarmy owner with a long history of frivolous lawsuits getting caught in lies in that same thread, and his dopey sidekick getting caught posing as a concerned customer. What a cluster...

5 years or 50, who cares. Blackball the hell out of these guys, I know I'll never buy anything they make now.

My Gobi is on order! Looking forward to it!:bananadance:

I wonder if stating on a public forum that the goal of the Whitson rack was hoping to achieve it as “More economical than the Gobi” helped the defense. o_O

….or people advertising Whitson racks as “Gobi style racks for a fraction of the cost...“

I mean, I've hung with plenty of people who support Harbor Freight during their on days and the Sinaloa cartel during their off days, the owners of both of which are most likely bigger scumbags than the owners of Gobi. So even if you weren't just trolling for a reaction I really don't care what you do with your money. The facts are that the Gobi owner is a patent troll and a major scumbag in his own right, and enough decent people who hear the facts will probably do the right thing and take their money elsewhere, so if you want to overpay for a shty steel rack it will be more than offset by the thread bumps
