Why? Because the joint he's smoking is actually a cleverly disguised flame thrower!

For many yes grasshopper, but for Samari just a good workout.

But yes, if we are having a serious moment in this discussion, I would say $yoda$ has a good point.

Again seriously speaking, in most cases, there would be so many that it would be pointless to try to thin out numbers. Unless you were trying to secure an island or the like.

If this were not the case, I would prefer close-range fast handling, point, and shoot weapons that can be suppressed. For me, a suppressed, Scattergun Technologies 12 gauge on an 870 platform would be a serious consideration.

It minus the suppressor has been my bedside night watch comfort for many years. It is a smooth bore variant that on a bench can put 5 out of 5 Rottweil slugs in an 8" paper plate at 200 yards every time.
That and a good buckshot load checks almost all the boxes.

Since zombies can travel in large groups you need something that holds a lot of ammo. I have an AR-15 just for that purpose. My friend gave me a California approved (this is a joke just like this thread and post) 100 round magazine. The only problem with an AR-15 is that it's quite loud, especial when you are perpendicular to the barrel and flash suppressor. This will attract more zombies and you'll need another large capacity magazine. It's a serious catch-22 situation.

Can one put a silencer or suppressor on an AR-15?

Colt has the best semi-auto pistol in 22LR (not Magnum). Magnum round in 22 caliber is good for revolvers, but not for pistols-the round is too long and jamming the slide.061717 Rimfire Match 032.jpg

I highly recommend all firearms owners (civilian, military, or law enforcement) listen to, or read LTC Grossman's book "On Combat." It is very well researched so it is long, but it goes through many different experiences when someone draws their weapon and has to defend themselves or attack an objective. This should have been mandatory reading when I was in the Corps IMO, but whatever. A few things that are discussed:
    • Auditory exclusion when firing - your body turns off hearing then turns it back on in real world shooting scenarios
    • Your bowels evacuating (if there is anything in there) when you are in a life and death situation and have to draw your weapon
    • How your memory works after a critical, life threatening event (critical to shut up and lawyer up if you ever are involved in a shooting because of this)
    • The proper way to train
Those were just a few points that stood out. The author reads the audio book and I have enjoyed it thus far (although it is long). I wish I would have read/listened to this as a younger man. Required reading for anyone who carries a firearm IMO.

I'm just curious to know what caliber everybody prefers to carry; 9mm seems to be the most popular among everyone I've talked to.

In Pennsylvania, you do not need a permit to open carry, and I once met a woman who was carrying a compact Glock chambered in 380; .40 and .45 also seem to be popular among people I've talked to, but 9mm definitely seems to be the most popular caliber because it is powerful but easier to handle than some of the larger calibers.

I know a few local cops in the town where is currently reside, and one of the cops I chat with from time to time told me at the time I talked to him that their service weapons were .45 Glocks, but that they were switching back to 9mm.

My uncle is a cop in New Jersey, and his service weapon is a 9mm H&K.
