Since the days of my earliest youth I have recognized the suffering which is the inevitable consequence of any psychic attachment to a material object. I'd actually been relatively successful in cultivating the prescribed indifference to such objects--until the moment I saw my PreRunner, parked in splendid solitude on the lot of the local stealership. Beautiful though it was, the PreRunner revealed itself over the next twelve years to have been aptly named--a kind of John the Baptist truck, whose total lack of traction and passing power cried out for completion by something infinitely greater. Our up-and down relationship eventually ended with a wheel-bending, shoulder-dislocating spin-out on an icy bridge.

That mystic first encounter of 2008 was utterly eclipsed by the experience of locating the MT access cab Sport, arriving in south Denver on a cold evening in late winter, closing the deal a couple of hours before the rebate ran out, and then driving home through the hills with the high beams on automatic, hypnotically illuminating roadside patches of snow.

Did I care if I died on that highway? Well--yes and no.

Would I care if a girl were impressed? Sure--if she's half as hot as my truck.

Do I give a crap who rules the world now? Not really--as long as I still can buy gas....
