I'm with you. Been considering the KDMax Pro for weeks but can't get past the "what happens if I have a major drivetrain issue under warranty and they start poking around the ECM" issue. I had also read that the adaptive cruise control doesn't work if you get a tune? Is that correct?

I can tell you first hand I just had a major repair done under warranty and no questions ever came up about the tune.

Had a check engine light for a popped code that wound up being a bad head seal on the #5 cylinder.

A compression test and exhaust leak test was performed and after confirmation a complete head replacement and #5 exhaust valves.

And yes the Adaptive cruise still work after the tune.

Cruise just works better in normal mode though.

Adaptive cruise works as it did without the tune.

Thanks. That's exactly the kind of thing I was afraid of since I had the exact same thing happen at 200 miles on a 2018 Jeep I had, except is was the #1 cylinder.

20211220_150701.jpg Wanted to post up another MT review since I know a majority of the manual driver's were also interested in the new KD Max Pro Tune:

My truck is a manual 2020 TRD 4x4 Off Road that I picked up back in October of 2020. The factory tune/throttle response was atrocious and kind of a big let down when I first picked up the truck and it actually almost got me in a t-bone collision as I was trying to make a left turn through an intersection during a flashing yellow arrow that would've normally not been an issue with a cable driven throttle pedal. My other vehicle is a 2006 Mitsubishi Evo 9 with an "old school" cable actuated throttle and that thing is super sensitive to inputs and what I've become accustomed to driving so driving the truck completely threw me off, haha.

I researched into what would be possible in getting that fixed and I came across the OV Tune 2.0 files. Those were solid in helping to wake up the truck and finally I was able to enjoy driving it! I didn't have any major issues with the OVT 2.0 but came across this thread about the KD Max 7.0 tune and figured I'd give that a shot and it was a noticeable improvement over the OVT 2.0 tunes to my surprise. Then fast forward a couple months and the announcement of the KD Max Pro came out and I wanted to see what improvements were made with this revision. It wasn't a huge difference difference like it was from OVT 2.0 to KD7.0 but it was noticeable in the fact that it felt a little bit more refined than KD7.0.

I installed the KD Max Pro tune earlier this month right before I took off on a road trip from Indianapolis to Vegas for the holidays. I immediately noticed that the slight part-throttle jerkiness of the KD7.0 would sometimes have in parking lots in 1st gear was gone so that was a welcome improvement. During the trip across country I used the standard cruise control and it worked just fine but sometimes would feel like it reverted back to the OEM map but I just figured it was still in its learning phase and didn't pay much mind to it. Every time after refueling (huge fan of the 87-93 octane learning capability over having to switch/load in separate regular or premium maps), I would make sure to give it a good 2nd or 3rd gear full throttle pull through the on ramp to get up to the speed of traffic and help with the relearning since I decided to clear the values before the tune. The power delivery from 2,000RPM all the way to about 7,000RPM is great and that weird "VTEC" power increase that used to be there right around 3,000-3,500 is completely gone. Instead it's a solid torquey start down low and then it carries power all the way to red line. City driving is great with the near instantaneous throttle response and toque delivery and the revised fuel/timing/etc makes the truck feel way quicker than it did coming from the factory. While out here in Vegas I've also managed to try out the tune on the trails. There was one section I hit where I used 4LO and the response and power is as great as it is with normal 2WD street driving but I'm new to taking a truck through trails so I can't really get into detail about how it would be different from the factory tune/OVT 2.0/KD Max 7.0/etc.

Overall, the KD Max Pro tune has been fantastic and I haven't noticed anything with it that has been an issue, major or minor and I thoroughly enjoy driving the truck every time I fire it up. If you're going from the factory tune to the KD Max Pro, it's going to be a world of difference in how the truck behaves and you'll appreciate the work the KD team have put into improving our vehicles!

The Dealership had my truck for a month trying to get the AC to stop dripping inside the cab. They had to drive it extensively and I bet they really enjoyed the KDMAX tune it has on it. Never a mention of any issues with the ECU. I had the same fear to lose my warranty but they can't tell via the computer screen the tune has been done. My month-long repair proves it.

I’ll add they had my truck for 31 days also. Now did they test anything that was ECU connected, don’t know? But they had time to if they had doubts.

    7BB069A5-A0C5-4068-92E7-95E775F88596.jpg Kdmaxx Pro tune review/comparison

I have a 2021 Trd pro I picked up brand new in march and since then have put about 19k miles on it. The truck has a wescott lift and 285/75/16 geolanders tires. At around 6k miles I had the truck Ovtuned on 91 octane tune.

First off I would like to thank Chris P located in San Antonio for the tune, amazing service, very informative and smooth process.

The first 2k miles after I bought the truck I noticed something just didn’t feel right. The engine and trans felt unresponsive and unpredictable. Driving around town was fine but on the hwy the truck would gear hunt on steep inclines like crazy. Seriously thought something was wrong with the truck until I googled and seen this is a common issue. After installing a lift and tires, the problems I had with the truck were only amplified so I looked for tuning solutions. Went with Ovtuned on 91 octane map. The tune was Ok. Wasn’t thrilled but felt improvement in responsiveness around town. I felt an increase in throttle sensitivity coming from a stop and the truck held gears longer on the hwy but the gear hunting was still an issue. Ran OVtune for about 10k miles and decided to hit up chris and give kdmaxx tune a try.

First drive I notice the truck wants to jump out and go. You can have the throttle sensitivity decreased but I dont mind a touchy throttle. I immediately noticed the truck drove so much better than ovtune and stock its not even close to a comparison. Before, if I needed to increase speed on the hwy, the truck would always drop to 4th to gain speed, Now it just holds 5th most of the time and accelerates. Acceleration is more linear. Before the tune, the truck would race to 6th where it had no torque, then you would have to bury your foot to get it to downshift to keep up with traffic. The truck now holds those lower gears keeping the truck in the powerband.

MPG: Right after tune I drove about 150 miles hwy and got about 19mpg going 70-75. 3000 miles later I can squeeze about 17mpg if I keep it below 70.

Cruise Control: Adaptive Cruise control is still useless it still gearhunts like crazy on the slightest incline or overpass on the hwy.

Regular Cruise control holds 5th better. There are still issues with it though. For example if the truck drops 1mph for more than a second the truck downshift to 4th instead of giving the truck time to catch up while still in 5th gear. I think if we give the truck a 5mph window before downshifting this will help alot.

Gear lock: Cool feature, fun offroad. Main reason I wanted it was to lock it in 5th and set the Cruise control to keep it from hunting but the cc overrides the gear lock and forces a downshift when going up an incline so my plan was foiled lol. Gearlock really exposes just how little torque these motors have. Foot to the floor the truck just wont budge going 70 into a good headwind or incline lol but its cool to have. Ive yet to tow with so we will see how it goes.

Overall a massive improvement over stock and Ovtune. Highly recommend. Thanks

Interesting, so when you say a little more throttle do you mean throttle response? Also interesting is has separate maps, but makes sense for towing. Thank you!

ECT has a little more throttle response, yes.
In VFtuner you can adjust throttle response--percent of throttle for the angle of the pedal.
