I have a totally stock 2017 2WD Sport. I'd like to switch out the front coils and struts with the Rough Country preloaded coils and struts to lift the front 2". Not to mention, I'm certain that my front coils have been, since day 1 responsible for a metal on metal sound I hear when traveling over speed humps, railroad tracks and other road bumps.

If I install these new struts with the 2" lift will there be enough adjustment in the remaining stock front suspension components for a true alignment?

The Rough Country Tech advised a new alignment will work just fine, however, I'd like to get some information from someone not selling the struts.

    Thanks for your help!

You should be fine if it’s 2 inches lift

Your alignment will work out, what have you done to verify that the coils are your sound

IMO no OP. Once you lift these trucks suspension geometry is affected. To get a good alignment for these trucks requires aftermarket UCA’s. That’s just me

Thanks for the info about the alignment.

I have an unknown amount of hours under my truck trying to locate that metal on metal bang or snapping sound. This sound is so loud that my neighbors know when I'm on the street as they and everyone else can hear that snapping noise when I roll over the speed humps.
So, I've examined and touched every component under the front of the truck from the driver's door to the front bumper. I've retorqued ever bolt and then marked those bolts with blue paint so as not to duplicate my efforts. I put a Go pro cam under the hood, front bumper, cross members, under the front wheels, inside the engine bay, you name it, I've filmed it. The Go pro picked up the loudest noise when the cam was pointed directly at the coils and struts. I then mooched my neighbor's chassis ears and that is when I was able to pin point the noise. When the coils are compressed or expended near they their travel limit I get the metal on metal bang in the head phones. No other component under the front of the truck gives that ear drum breaking bang like those coils do. Therefore, based on 1/2 tank of gas and 2 days of running chassis ears on the front coils, I'm going to replace them. Hopefully, it works, it not, then I have a cool level looks to my truck and that metal on metal speed hump bang lives on.

One suggestion is staying with stock coils and 5100 Bilsteins with 1.5"-2". The metal sound may be the front oem rubber radiator mounts that wear out really fast.

I replaced those front mounts twice and still the noise lives on.

You will might be able to achieve the factory alignment spec within the window, but it's nice to be able to max or exceed factory spec for caster AND 0 camber, which is probably not going to be possible with 2" lift and OEM UCAs. Highway driving on a lifted truck is much more relaxed and bump steer off road is less forceful with extra caster.

Just for fun trivia and accurate terminology, Tacoma's don't have struts. They have a double-wishbone-coil-over-shock front suspension.

Regardless of what vendors or sales catalogs call them. Yea, the 'world' says the terms are interchangeable. But the 'world' spews a lot of misinformation.

Reading around here it doesn't seem that Rough Country is the hot product choice for Tacomas. I'd be inclined to consider @Grossomotto's suggestion.

Best wishes for solving your noise issue!
