2005 W/JBL Tesla install update: Installed a few nights ago. Install went as expected. Once you sort through all the harnesses went relatively smoothly. Fired right up. So that was good. The only thing that didn't work as expected was the Ac/Heat was backwards and the setting to swap that didn't work. Known issue with the older Taco's. I got a whatsapp text in with the famous Erik from this thread took a day or so probably due to holiday and him being on the other side of the world. The px6 is relatively "lame" and pretty basic so I did shoot off the Benjamin to Sergey. Looks like that software opens it up a bit more and offers a more elegant look with some other enhancements. He advertises the ability fire up the PowerAmp equalizer app which I'm hoping fixes my sound woo's. The sound is ok....but distorts a bit at higher volume like there's no clear delineation between the 6 speakers in the doors from the JBL sub. Currently the Front L/R channels/Mute button of the HU are control all 7 speakers....the Rear L/R Mute controls none of the speakers. If all 7 speakers (which are all different) are getting the same signal that could be an issue. I got a whatsapp text in with Erik on this asking if he had any ideas.

    First Impressions:
    Definitely upgrades/Updates the look
Wished it was matt black and not gloss....but hey can't be too picky here
Older Taco's will need the "simple" software fix for Heat/Ac issue
Android px6 lame out of the box (Hopefully Sergey's firmware livens this up)
ZLink is ok.....the range is horrible
Bluetooth range on the other hand seems legit. I may just rock this and forget ZLink...Jury still out
Was able to add Prime, Disney+, Youtube (Sergey to send link with order to obtain Netflix)
Hopefully the Mute/Sound issues mentioned above can be worked through.

More to come for those interested.

I would test to make sure you have the issue. Try the reverse button inside the settings first. If that doesn’t work the yes you will probably have to install the fix. They will send you a quick video of how to get to it through settings. Work with them to verify everything.

I have the update if you need it. Just note this is only for the reversed ac temp issue. If you do not have this issue you don’t want this update. It will make your controls backwards.

I do not have the originals bin file to undo this update. So this is only to fix the hot cold reverse problem.

if anyone needs it just shoot me a pm.

Is Aucar implementing running changes for these issues depending on the model of truck?

I have a 2006 TRD off-road. I’m so overdue for a head unit, but I’m not sure how much longer to wait for all these quirks to be smoothed out.

I think the only differences between the older trucks and the newer ones is the AC controls. So this update should cover it for the CAN settings, unless something else comes up.

The jbl issue of not having a fader (all the speakers on the front 2 channels) is an issue with all aftermarket head units if I’m not mistaken. I thought this had something to do with jbl amp. It takes the inputs and uses a digital signal from the stock deck to split and control, tune the sound.

Forgot to mention my truck has a JBL system as well. Eventually I want to do a custom system, but I’d like to be able to do that later down the road.

So for the subwoofer connection I only need to connect one rca even though the amp takes 2? I have 2 kickers behind the back seat

    Yes
yes, most amps only require one input and that is typically the left one

I am also wondering why the manufacturer isn’t fixing these issues? This unit is awesome but for the price you shouldn’t have this many quirks! I want to purchase one, just not sure the unit is ready for prime time, this should be plug and play.

@Daiblo, cliff, Even.....I'm adding a Rockford Fosgate Mono Amp and 10" Sub to my JBL setup. Should have this in by this weekend. After consulting a local install group and Rockford the setup will consist of leaving the Factory 8 inch going and adding the 10. RF said to use a Y-adapter to split the "sub" out of HU into both L/R channels on the sub....hopefully this will give me the extra bottom end without stressing the factory 8. I will also add the HU gives you a bit more sound and control out of the box. (mentioned earlier in this thread I think) I'm looking to implement the PowerAmp app Sergey suggest into the system as well. Bought the Sergey package and working with him on all the advanced feature/settings/custom logos. He's easy to work with if you don't mind working later in the evening due to time differences. He seems to have a good system in place using email and Facebook messenger. I'm fairly tech savvy. If you're not you may struggle a bit with everything so find you a friend who is. There is a good bit of back and forth from PC to USB to HU to email to messenger.....I think the squeeze will be worth the effort once I have everything set the way I want. I mean you're already spending close to $900 for the HU, if it takes another hundo to truly make it unique and powerful and the way you want then at this time early in the project I say Surgey's software/expertise well worth it.

    Currently planning on this setup

I have recently installed this head unit in my 09 tacoma with JBL speaker and I have ran into a couple of issues...
First thing when I connected the OBD2 plug, it muted my music. As soon as I disconnected it, the volume was back.
Second thing I'm experiencing is my head unit randomly muting and unmuting itself while listening to music or on a phone call.
Any ideas on how to fix these issues? I can also try to post a video later if that helps?

A video would be helpful, this sounds like it could be fixed with a CAN update.

This is the first I hearing about this issue.

do you have a back up camera in the mirror?
