    Hey everyone,

So, my truck recently has having this problem when stopping. It does not happen every time but only occurs when I break really hard. My truck stops, then I can feel her hesitating, and finally it clunks forward like someone rear-ended me. It is coming from the transmission or at least the general area of the transmission. I have done a lot of work down near there (replaced driveshaft u-joints, transmission filter, transmission fluid flush) but it was all for other reasons than this problem. I check the transmission fluid regularly ever since the problem has been happening.

Any suggestions or ideas on what is going on?

I would check 3 things: speed sensor, fluid level in the trans again, and any sensor or plugs on the trans. It sounds like it’s not disengaging the gears when slowing.

you could also see if it gets stuck the same by slowing down and shifting into neutral a few times. If there is an improvement, you are looking for a sensor. If it doesn’t want to shift down or out of drive, I think that is a fluid issue.

Rear leaf springs worn and wrapping on hard braking. Common on most Tacoma's. Make sure the rear leaf springs are properly torqued and then don't worry about it.

Is your truck equipped with ABS brakes?

Is your ABS modulating the brakes when you brake hard? Could this be what you are feeling?

I thought that at first but I never had this issue before. I have had this vehicle for over a year now and this is just appearing. I have braked hard before but I have never had this issue so I ruled the ABS system just with that. It is a violent clunk and it literally feels like being rear-ended.

Had the same thing. Felt like I was being rear ended after a stop. Toyota replaced my driveshaft under a TSB

have a dealer check your VIN, that’s the easier way.

Hey everyone, so here's an update:

I was talking to my buddy on the phone and he recommended I call a Toyota dealership just to see if there were any recalls. There was a recall on my rear leaf springs along with my seatbelt. After they installed new rear leaf springs, my jerking completely stopped and my transmission fluid levels have remained normal. I have a theory that since my rear leaf springs were bad, it was causing the driveshaft to have a lot torque on it thus pulling on the yolk too much causing fluid to leak passed the seal. I could be completely wrong but it is the only explanation for it. Maybe someone else can explain it way better than I just did as I am not as tuned with my mechanic skills as some of y'all are. So, lesson of the day, if you are having any problems, call the dealership and see if there are any recalls.
