The motor slows and even stops sometimes while ripping oak and walnut. It’s hard to explain the problem I guess. While I tighten the nut, the threaded arbor turns with the nut. And it’s not tight either. The arbor turns, and both pulleys but not the blade.

Tom it sounds like you have a couple of issues going on. First I would try a big thick flat washer between the blade and the nut, that should help address the blade tightening issue. But the motor stalling tells me it's probably tired and worn out. Best fix for that is a new motor which is an opportunity to upgrade the hp and that's cheaper than a new saw. Or like the others have said, just get a new saw. I had my craftsman saw for 40 years, it served me well and I did a lot of upgrades to it over the years. But boy I gotta tell ya getting a new modern cabinet saw was an eye opener! I wished I would have done that years ago. I went from a 3/4 hp craftsman to a 3 hp laguna, huge difference in how it performs. Much smoother too as it runs a serpentine belt instead of V belts that always seem to vibrate. Just some food for thought brother.......

Well I got the rockler dust hose and fitting yesterday and I gotta say it's a very nice kit. Good quality stuff and fittings that will fit just about anything and they just screw on and no clamps!
    20211218_111812.jpg 20211218_111823.jpg 20211218_111840.jpg 20211218_111922.jpg
Fits the dust port nice on the miter saw and it angles to the side for the hose hook up. I'll install the hose after the dust hood is made.
20211218_112220.jpg The hose fitting fits the 40 year old craftsman shop vac perfectly.
20211218_112253.jpg and with the shop vac directly under the saw I'll be able to shorten the hose quite a bit. I also have a smaller craftsman shop vac that I may put under the saw.

I have been looking at a grizzly and Laguna cabinet saw or a Rikon contractor saw. They are all in the $1200 range which is about all I can spend. Only one is available right now though.

I paid 850 for an awesome used Delta Unisaw. Have you looked into used? There are often great bargains!

Not much to choose from around here. I’m in a very rural area, small town USA. The largest town near me is only 18,000 people.

Way back someone asked me to show pics of my shop. I got a new gopro and today was the first time I used it so I did a quick overview of my shop. So in the video you'll also get to see me and hear my voice. Sorry for the radio being so loud as it's always on in my shop and I kinda wanted to see what it would sound like. So if I ever do anymore videos in the shop I'll turn it down or off.

Can anyone recommend a good mid-grade bandsaw? I want to start milling my own small project boards out of too-good-to-burn firewood. I thought a bandsaw might be the best option. Thanks!

If you can find a good used delta, jet, grizzly 14" with a riser block you'd be good. New kinda depends on your budget?

I'm an amateur woodworker, I have a table saw, planer, and bench top Jointer. I currently use my 15+ year old rigid shop vac for dust collection. The DeWalt planer I have a filter bag on and it seems to work well.

I'm looking to upgrade the dust collection in my garage. I'm torn between going full dust collector like the "2hp" harbor freight collector or something like a Festool or Fien dust collector/vacuum. The Festool seems expensive for a vacuum but the low noise would be a plus.

    Any suggestions?

I run a Harbor Frieght dust collector and have no issues with it. I have have a Dust Deputy on a 5 gallon bucket that keeps most of the junk out of the shop vac. The HF dust collector can be upgraded a d still not spend what the others cost.

I have this https://www.woodcraft.com/products/1hp-wall-mount-dust-collector-rikon I like it a lot. There are several other manufacturers that make something similar. I think the most important part is the pleated filter to keep the dust out of the air. My 2 cents! Looked up my receipt, I got it on sale for $449.

I run a harbor freight DC as well, I have upgraded it over the years slowly and you could do the same thing. It's not noisy at all. You can't beat em for the money spent. Look at the video I posted up above and you'll see both of my dust collectors. Small dust extractors and shop vacs are just that, small, they always seem to be a compromise. When you finally use a real full sized DC or a cyclone DC you'll understand. When I did it I realized I should have done it years ago.

Put me down as a HF collector as well. Got it used with no issues. Even went through a flood and started right up...after I drained the motor. 1640815859078581424462282179500.jpg

This is my harbor freight dust collector with a Wynn filter upgrade. Then I did a dust deputy cyclone upgrade to it. Nothing goes into the bag now, everything goes into the blue drum. I put a clear window on the drum so I can see when it's getting full and time to empty.
