Anyone got experience sharpening blades? I just purchased the Ken Onion Edition Sharpener w/ multiple replacement kits, including the honing ones, and the blade grinder attachment. I have absolutely ZERO experience using this equipment. I know there are a couple detailed YT videos and I will watch those, but looking for real world feedback and even better - pics! if you have them. Share your sharpened blades! Share your sharpening knowledge!

Practice on shitty knives you dont care about first. Thwre is a real skill to using that machine. I make blades professionally, and have tw9 big 2 by 72 inch versions of that little device. Works very well, but like i said, its a learned skill. Practice practice practice. You can shar0en a blade really well, 9r make it as dull as a butter knife. Wish you lived cloaer, id give you a lesson.

That was the exact reason I chose this sharpener over the cute little trendy one that makes it easy, lol. I want to learn this skill. I plan on starting with some older knives, cheap knives around the house, then old axes and shovels etc... Nothing is touching my m390 and s90v knives until I am confident I won't lose half the blade, lol. The s30v stuff can go first tho... ;) Older spydercos that have been dormant inside backpacks and stash spots for years.

Like Mark77 said, practice, practice. It’s a pretty simple machine to use and very intuitive once you use it. It’s easy to round the tip if you are not careful. The YouTube videos on it are actually pretty good. Get a crappy/old knife and go to town.

Also, dont try to get 1000 miles put of those belts. Fresh belts, belts that arent tired cut/work best.
Especially on those harder steels you mentioned.

I've got that exact sharpener. Pretty much ruined a couple of my old Buck knives before I started to get the hang of it, but once you figure out the angle and the pressure it's actually pretty easy!

Yep, got a total of 5 replacement boxes - that's 10 of each I think, and 3 boxes of honing belts. Will get more as needed to stay stocked up. Bad habit lately (2 is 1, 1 is none etc etc) and I've seen too many examples of good products get discontinued.
