I just had the Pro tune installed along with my Pastor by PapaRee on Tuesday. I had the SLT KDMAX 6 prior but traded that truck in on a new 2022.

With the old SLT I had to ease in not to launch and it was still a little jerky. I and my Pastor went with the Sport option on the Pro tune. It’s a tad smoother than the old SLT and easy to control. More power!

I’ll write a complete review after getting more time in with the Pro tune, but I have seen almost a .5 mpg increase in mileage at this point. And smoother shifting.

Smode is great for hillly areas as it will hold gears going down hill so you don't have to keep braking. That is failry necessary if you don't want to smoke your brakes, especiallly if towing.

Let’s keep the politics out of all of it and concentrate on how bad ass the KDMax Pro tune is! Before ban hammers and lockdowns start happening!

what tire size will you be running? 4.88’s are ideal for 33” skinnies or smaller.

I run 32’s and the difference is 400 RPMs from stock at 65mph. The truck drives VERY well and I tow 4200lbs safely with them.

5.29’s would have been too much and annoying at highway speeds (not to mention way less mpgs)

I'll be with 33" tires I definitely could use more rpms at 60mph

To add to this I had slt throttle before went with lite throttle with the pro. And it’s a bit more forgiving when the road gets rough and snow packed with pot holes in the ice. And on corners you start to slide on the snow I found it easier to accelerate with lite throttle out of the slide without being to much if that makes sense. I also have 5:29s and 315s

Does the tune help out with getting around with bigger tires without a regear? I'm putting 34s soon on but haven't purchased gearing yet... was looking at 5.29s obviously but came across this tune and figured I'd ask!

Yep wasn't my intention to spark a debate or anything, just couldn't pass up the opportunity to use that joke. It was lead on so nicely. I won't even go into political debates in off topic stuff. Just a whole lotta nope. I apologize. I figured it would be received as it was and the addition of the /s helped relate that I am not serious about that kind of discussion. Anyways...

I only got the 5.29's for that extra umph and I am running some heavy 285's that are E rated. Plus the possibility of going up in tire size in the future. Most likely won't happen.

Yea that sounds like where I wanna be. Not with 315's but with the throttle. I am curious how much extra weight my tires and rims added though, plus a full size spare. I need to get under and remove the stock spare and hopefully wiggle in the full size I got, but I doubt it'll fit even with airing down. Either way, it's a lot heavier than the stock tires. In the bed currently and it feels like I am towing a trailer with stock gears and no tune. I can only imagine 315's! You cray cray. But it looks sooooo good ;)

I just want to test drive someones truck similar to mine to experience the difference. I can't wait any longer.

I have 285/70 R17's with 5.29s and just got the PRO Tune a few days ago. It is really making me like this truck better every day, the drive is like it should be now.

If you are going with 285’s and have any additional weight, sure 5.29’s make more sense. I really like how my truck is set up and it absolutely flies! The speed limit where I live is 65-80, so it balances well and also for the desert trails I run.

not sure how this matters. I drive huge grades with my setup and still manage great mpg and power with the tune.

Hehe 315s aren’t an easy task that’s for sure more cutting is better lol

and with the tune it makes the truck feel light like they’re! And gears help but bang for the buck the tune is huge. You can get an intake that just makes noise for the same price you can make the truck drive amazing and shift butter smooth.

(warm butter not cold butter that clumps and messes up the bread) lol

Question... Normal throttle. Is this option named normal throttle because that is what it should have been from Toyota? Like the way my 2nd gen was?

I had the frame replaced on my 2nd gen in 2020. During the 6 weeks that Toyota had my truck, I had a 3rd gen as a rental. When I picked up my Tacoma after frame replacement, it was unbelievable how much more responsive the old truck was. Shot right out into traffic effortlessly.
