Bought mine to ideally hold onto for a long time. I would rather have a 20 year old Toyota than any other brand.

Read the article. I think it was pretty spot on. Can't argue with anything he said in there. Does it bother me? Nope.

There is a reason everyone compares their trucks to Toyota.

Who are you kidding...they always have been. The difference is now you have access to all those independent yet somehow nearly identical reviews. You had your eyes opened by the interbez.

Seems to me that the people who try to make it into something it’s not are the ones who bitch the most.

Jealousy is a horrible thing! Toyota is on top, and they cant knock it down.

We understand what the author fails to realize is that Toyota is slow to change. This is a good thing IMHO. If it ain't broke don't fix it. This equates to QDR. One of the first considerations for me when purchasing a new vehicle.

Tacoma's are awesome and have a cult following that sometimes elevates them to more than they are. So, those who do not love Tacoma's feel the need to correct the perspective of those of us who do.

I love Tacos. However, I feel Glocks, Harleys, and Texas are all loved out of proportion to how good they actually are and I take joy in injecting some reality into the opinions of fanboys; I'm sure some people feel that way about Tacoma's.

Yeah I probably be perfectly fine if I could buy a brand new 1st Gen, though there are some things I like better about the 3rd, it does still feel like a Toyota, felt instantly at home in it. Where the other brands felt a little off to me. I mean, they are all basically the same they just do things a little different. Any brand will do what I need it to do, however have been driving Toyota’s for so long, why change now? Probably why I am ok with how slow Toyota progresses. The world is in constant change and chaos…want my vehicle to have no drama, and to keep on keeping on.

Yup, the Tacoma is way nicer, inside and out, vs all the other midsized trucks. New Ranger looks nice but nothing special. GM twins are terrible and that new Nissan looks 10 years old.

Authors bitching about lack of tech obviously haven't been around for long. Toyota trucks have always been lacking on that front, that's part of what makes them reliable and more timeless.
It also keeps the costs low.
I wish they would bring back the low profile, small truck though, and keep it paired with the V6. The bulkier 3rd gens really do need more power, so either need to suck it up and plop in a Tundra V8, or come forced induction from factory on all models. No modern truck should be struggling to hit 300HP from a 3.5L V6.

If tech is your main thing then Toyota will usually disappoint. Our 18 Tacoma and 2020 4 Runner are nothing lagging behind in tech, as was the 12 Tundra before it, but they work and work well. They are simpler and more reliable than the competition most of the time. My coworkers trucks have features I didn’t know exist, as do the dealer loaner vehicles I see in the parking lot when their tech is being repaired lol. Everything in the world is changing so damn fast, Toyota gives its owners time to ease into while they perfect the technology and ideally keep owners vehicles repairs to a minimum.
Just my opinion. Happy New Year.

Look man my Tacoma is my favorite truck of the five trucks I’ve owned in my life. And if it weren’t for TW posts I would never have known my Tacoma was a POS! :D

Hi everyone. I've followed Tacoma World for a long time and finally joined. I bought a 2018 Tacoma TRD Off Road brand new. I wanted something that would last until they pried the keys out of my cold dead fingers. Yes I am older. Only a Taco fit the bill. Since it is the last vehicle I will ever buy I got in and everything on it and in it. My sweetie had one with over 500,000 miles on it until some idiot pulled in front of him and totalled it. I am an older female who loves driving, on and off road. I find it relaxing. I have seen the articles and they don't know squat. I wouldn't trade my truck for ANY vehicle on the road. It goes anywhere and I feel safe and comfortable in it. I live out in the boondocks of the Appalachian Mountains. I know my Taco will get me there and not get stuck or breakdown. So when they breakdown in their trucks just smile and wave as you go by.
