If you'll read the articles, regular handgun and hunting rounds didn't scratch the bottle, a 50 cal round barely scratched it; it took a 50 cal armor piercing tank round to puncture the bottle.
And even then the bottle sits so low in the vehicle that I don't think a single one of those bullets would have actually struck it, I see nothing south of the license plate haha

and if you do puncture the bottle you might get a fire…

… but you’re not gonna get BOOM from a holed bottle. Hydrogen does nothing without oxygen, so the limitation is how much O2 is available. So you get a fire, the biggest danger being that the flame is difficult to see in daylight. Plus with hydrogen being so much lighter than air it doesn’t tend to stick around when released.

We live closely with bottled propane, LNG, and gasoline already. None are risk free, and hydrogen won’t be either, but it’s just not the danger some seem to think it is.

Not realizing that aluminum will develop a patina rather quickly to stop further corrosion.

Hydrogen is so inefficient I don't know why people think it would be any good for cars. Currently to get large quantities it is broken down from natural gas. That process releases more CO2 than just burning it. (remember it is going to take energy to break it down.) But lets just say fuck the environment for now. Once you have the H2 you have to transport it to where it can be used, incurring transportation costs. OK now what? Burn it in an internal combustion engine. Hydrogen isn't energy dense so it's going to take a big ass tank to get decent range, and you get all of the nitrogen oxides that make smog. (but fuck the environment) Or do you run it through a fuel cell and convert it back to electricity? That better than ICE, but still inefficient and you still need a lot of hydrogen.

The best answer for reasonable hydrogen fuel is to use a nuclear power plant to break water into hydrogen and oxygen during off peak hours. It's still going to be much less efficient than just saving the energy in batteries. I think the chances of new nuclear power plants is less than zero, even though they could be source of "clean" power.

Is there some reason solar, wave, wind, etc can’t drive electrolysis?

    why must it be nuclear?

Well, he was talking about inefficiencies, so mentioning the most inefficient power generation tech..... Kinda self explanatory (as to why we wouldn't use them)

Hydrogen internal combustion pissed me off when I heard of it. Worker unions definitely weaseled their way into the room, don’t need your damn transmissions anymore! Natural gas is the oil companies weaseling their self into the room, don’t need your natural gas anymore. Guess what piping is compatible with hydrogen? Natural gas! We completely replace natural gas with hydrogen, use the existing infrastructure to transport hydrogen and the oil companies get a piece of the pie to boot. IIRC the current retail hydrogen fueling stations create the hydrogen on location with tap water and city electricity so it’s not transported. Every proponent of a hydrogen economy wants to use green electricity, we’re willing to get there with another color. My graduate marketing class introduced me to the idea of step-products, something the on it’s own makes no sense but there’s no other way to get you to product D without product B and C. This WILL happen, the Saudis have dumped billions into hydrogen recently, the Asian countries are using Australia. If you’re still reading, look into ammonia’s relationship with hydrogen… ammonia is actually probably going to be the fuel of the future.

Btw they already started mixing hydrogen in with natural gas, sort of like ethanol into gasoline.

It could be any source of electricity. I suggested nuclear because you can build a big generation plant to cover peak loads and during off peak it can create H2 gas. There are newer, safer nuclear technologies that require active measures to keep the process running. If anything goes wrong the process stops, unlike the current power plants that melt down if something goes wrong. I'm not advocating for nuclear. The problems to be overcome to make it safe and keep the waste contained for millennia seem insurmountable.

Besides hydrogen fuel cell cars are 50% less efficient per mile driven when compared to battery cars. That's why I don't understand what people see in them.
