Options for treating poluted water at home?

hypothetical Scenario: city water supply is poluted with chemicals due to infrastructure damage. Stores are wiped out of bottled water. No wells or streams nearby to gather water from.

I know something like a Berkey filter is an option. What can a person do if they don't have this? Any other ways to treat chemically poluted water?

 

Maybe a Reverse Osmosis with a Charcoal final.

Suggest to contact someone like Culligan for full details or the County Health Dept. on methods to treat your water.

 

Activated carbon is the only way for chemicals. You can get a whole house filter installed with a reverse osmosis setup fairly easily.

Better idea is keep some water on hand. I bought a 6 pack of 5 gallon water cans and rotate through them anytime I go camping.
