What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

The little dome fan I put in mine was worthless.

 

That was later picked up by Miguel and dropped off at my place, that's the one.

 

That diff had a doomed life.

I just connected it this thing is awesome sauce, pulls very little wattage. Will only be using the exhaust for winter camping when cooking in the shell. This is the dometic 1400, I opted for the basic one on purspose I didnt want the remote or the rain sensor or the thermostat, just wanted manual open, air in, air out.

 

Put 04 taillights on my 98

 

Do they work 100%? I noticed this weeks my 99’s tail lights have 5 pins while the 02 has 6

 

I just used the later model taillight lenses on my 98.

 

Hmmm, the 5 pin taillights definitely aren’t 100% on my 02, idk if it’s the truck or the lights though.

 

Get a test light and check for power.

You can buy new 'plugs' at places like Autozone to replace your current ones.

 

they work and pins are u talking about. the only thing that was differnet for me was the reverse lights were diff i think on the 98 it was a twist pull while the 04 was the whole bulb just pulled right out (thats wut she said)

i have the roof racks and it just stick over them no more than an inch

 

Anyone replace their e-locker actuator? Mine's no longer engaging and before giving a try at rebuilding/cleaning my current one I wanted to have a plan in case it's toast or I fuck it up even more (which is more likely haha). I found an

$329 AISIN SAT-008 OEM Differential Lock Actuator - Compatible with Select Toyota Tacoma; REAR

AISIN one that looks promising and a heck of a lot cheaper than what I saw new Toyota ones going for.

I've been thumbing through the fsm and it looks pretty straight forward as long as I make sure the locking fork, gear, and button are all lined up and on the same page. Is there anything else I'm missing?

 

I haven’t replaced one with an aftermarket actuator, but I’ve rebuilt them with mixed success. Depending on how much water/mud intrusion you have, a rebuild might work or it might be too far gone.

For units that are totally screwed, I’ve installed a cable actuator like the one below with good success. Pricey, but probably comparable to a new electronic actuator.

I just installed the Aisin actuator on an elocker I bought at a junk yard. The original was toast and despite my best efforts I couldn't get it working reliably. The new one installed easily and works consistently.
