We went to buy crab, a kinda tradition on New Years Eve with us. Usually King Crab even though it's expensive... but they didn't even have King Crab this time and the snow crab was THIRTY-FIVE BUCKS a POUND!!! Three pounds of crab was a hundred and seven dollars!

So we swung by the local Chinese restaurant and got take-out.

And now sitting in front of the fireplace, talking about making an angel food cake tomorrow, and I'm about to pour some wine.

Best wishes for 2022 to everyone. So many possibilities...

Holiday decor gets stowed today. Doesn't seem like Jan.1, with the milder winter so far. Only a dusting of snow so far. Old timers say if we don't have winter in winter, we'll have it in spring. I remember a few like that. So keep that new snow eater handy, 6.
Wishing all a happy, safe, and well new year.

Happy New Year fellow Porchatonians!! May it bring you and yours Health, Happiness and Prosperity. And some cool truck stuff, too.

Lynn and I spent a few hours at our friend's place for a drink and some food with the hot air balloon crew/pilots - about 5 miles from our place and we were home safely by 10:30. Watched the ball drop and headed to bed. Lynn's making our traditional pork and sauerkraut for dinner today. Just going to watch some football and relax. Oh, and Mimosas this morning.

What a way to close out the year. Last night’s filets were the best I’ve ever had.

I will try to remember. I am currently lobbying the wife for us to go up and make my SIL's cottage ready for the summer season. I will place a pic below with a sunset view from the cottage deck.

Nice blog. Yosemite is on my list of parks to visit while I can still hobble around.

I got a dose of the same old, same old, this week when the city closed the Senior Center due to C19. I take music lessons there every week. Back to Zoom classes.

Here in MD we enjoy Blue Crabs. The prices are pretty high at $80 a dozen. A dozen will feed all three of us and the $80 is not much different than going out to eat at a restaurant. I look at the Snow Crab legs when shopping at Costco and just shake my head.

What time is dinner? One of my favorite meals but I am the only one in the family that likes the combination. Does your wife put a sweetener in the pot with the sauerkraut?

    Happy New Year everyone!
Made it back from Michigan in record time, under 9 hours. Little to no traffic on the road including trucks. I made a note of construction areas on the PA turnpike, and we might take an alternate route to Michigan in the spring. All the construction on the Ohio Turnpike is almost finished, over 5 years of improvements to the Turnpike.

5ish or so. Just get on I81 North to exit 202 and you're here. :D

Lynn doesn't add anything - she puts the sauerkraut in the bottom of the crockpot with a pork roast on top and lets it slow cook for hours. Add mashed potatoes to the plate and it's golden!

Not much porch time here, too damn cold, most of it in a wood heated shop, but thanks

I remember "in the day" having so much snow in Truckee that the only way around was to get on the Snow Mobil

    Morning all:
Looks like everyone survived, HAPPY NEW YEAR to all.

Glad Lynn makes the mashed potatoes with the pork and sauerkraut Mark, it wouldn't be the same without them. :)

Welcome Scott, but before you pull up a chair on the porch make sure to fill up the cooler.

A little something every chance we get.
:proposetoast: Good Morning and Happy New year Porch Pals & Gals! A couple rounds of grazing all the munchies, and I was the last to bed after the local weather at 10:30! Poor Rex was all worried as usual about the fireworks; finally got to settle sometime after midnight. About a half hour until Carol's black eyed pea cornbread - for good luck, you know. Football, and preparing for the big freezing wind overnight, as our first freeze finally comes.
May your year be a great one! :proposetoast:

:pccoffee:  Happy New Year 60's/wannabes/Susan! We got 'takeout' last night from a local restaurant; shrimp and smoked salmon appetizer, bay scallop & corn bisque, sous vide filet, asparagus, clever layered potatoes, chocolate awesomeness dessert. It was delightful. Didn't even try to stay up for the ball drop, watched other earlier celebrations across the globe instead. No traditional New Years Day meal for me -- I think sauerkraut is just a way to ruin perfectly fine pork! ;)

I'm glad your holidays have been safe and joyful. Here's to a better 2022.

Just finished taking down the Christmas decorations. Sunny, 80 degrees and humid. So glad we scaled back on decorations this year. Now I get to watch the Outback Bowl and cool off some.

Talk about the outback Bowl, if you get a chance, don't miss the Fox Network special on Madden. It's got all the old timers in it, lots of John Madden, of course, very well worth watching. Boom!

I was a laborer on a construction site at Tahoe Donner in late 70s shoveling snow around a condo under construction and throwing the snow up what we thought was 14 feet of consolidated snow for the guys to put siding on. Sometimes we actually got it up all the way. Hard work.
