    I just finished up the trans cooler install. Great write up by the OP. I followed every step except for the horn re wire. I just used the same hole on the top of the L bracket. I added the in line filter that Timmy recommended in his 4runner video. I used his video as a go by for the plumbing.

    @zero4 HUGE THANK YOU brother, I followed most of your steps in the Transmission Cooler installation, along with a new Radiator, hoses, thermostat. Tomorrow I'll finish with filling up the radiator, and burping the cooling system, and the last hose connections for the cooler. Purchased some nylon spacers to try for the cooler mounting, we'll see how well they hold up. But it was a brilliant idea, I just don't have a machine shop to make the aluminum ones. This is what I truly enjoy the most about TW. If you have something that needs done, someone else has already done, and usually posts pics and instructions. Too tired to post a pic right now, maybe tomorrow.

    I noticed that many of you ran spacers, are they necessary? I have mine mounted at a slight angle and now I’m wondering it it’s effecting it’s efficiency

    best mounted to the frame for max cooling. i have the 677 model, centered on bottom frame with 2 tek bolts. then took the 2 supplied metal straps and formed a triangle, tek bolt to the lower frame. cooler is oriented same as OP's.
    look at post #99, except i have inlet/outlet at the 3 o'clock position. less air obstruction on condenser and radiator that way.

    I've noticed that my trans temps are running about 135 degrees with the cooler weather. Should I cover my trans cooler for the winter months. My transmission is shifting just fine, the rpm's are normal, but I've read the the lower temps can effect how the torque converter behaves. I've noticed a huge drop in mpg on this last tank of gas. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Now I know that Winter blend gas is different from summer blends, but my mpg has dropped to around 11-12 mpg.

    Do you have the fluid routed through the radiator? Either before or after the cooler?

    how many of you that installed a transmission cooler have also installed a thermostat for it to control temps. Any suggestions on which brand of thermostat for the transmission cooler would be greatly appreciated.

    What would the purpose of that be? Are you trying to control flow through the cooler?

    Usually that setup is In conjunction with a cooling fan. Not just a standalone finned exchanger. The thermo would kick on an eletric fan when the probe is a certain temp

    yes, with winter coming, I'm worried that my fluid won't get hot enough. I found a simple Thermostat\Bypass type valve that just works on the fluid temp.

    Okay, after reading the Tru-Cool page, I'm assuming that the 4454 isn't supposed to pass the fluid through until an operating temp is reached. My scan gauge is showing my temps running around 125-135 on the highway when the weather is cold, goes up to 170 during city driving. So, should I just forget about the thermostat/bypass valve they make and just run it as is. It's connected after my "New" radiator lines, and then back to the transmission. Transmission shifts smooth as butter, rpms are where they should be when shifting. Maybe I'm worrying about this too much.:notsure:

    Don't even want to think about how long it took me to finally get around to doing this... damn cooler sat in a box on the shelf FOREVER.

    Slapped the Magnefine inline filter on the return line before it hits the Hayden. Hose for the return is new but was being lazy so will replace the send hose (from hardline to passenger side inlet), when I swap in the A340F.
