I set up an Apple MagSafe disc charger on a phone holder and connected it to the USB port on the center console. I got a USB-C adapter plug as well. When I place the phone on Magsafe, the green charging screen on Iphone pops up with % status. However, the charging doesn’t continue. After a while the phone isn’t charging. Any ideas? Maybe not enough wattage for Magsafe?

On my 2020, the USB on the dash is for media. The two under the lid of the center console are for charging stuff.

Yes, the built-in USB port on 2nd and 3rd gen Tacomas do not supply enough power so when your phone does the handshake with the wireless charger and then the charger starts pulling a lot of current, the Stereo (head unit) sees this and disables the USB port.

You'll never get this to work with the built-in USB port and you'll have to supply your own USB port that can supply the necessary power.

Timely post. I was just about to order a MagSafe charger and wireless car play adapter. I’ll guess I’ll have to reconsider my plans.

A quick google search says the mag charger pulls up to 3 amps. I believe (Don't set in stone) the charging ports on the Tacos are 2-2.5 amps (?) ... Maybe that's the prob? IDK...

That makes sense. I might try a power brick connected to the lighter port. Or get another offbrand magsafe charger. More research needed…

A cigarette lighter quick charge outlet would do. Give or take $10-15 for a single outlet 3.0 quick charge and $20-30 for a dual outlet if you need them.

Edit: here's what I use and it works well.
