I recently took my 2021 SR-5 into the dealer for my 5000mi "Toyota Care" maintenance checkup. After reading about some factory issues with the automatic transmission fluid level on this site, I requested them to check the level, they said "OK" at the desk. When I picked up my truck and asked about the tranny level, they said that since it is a "sealed" transmission there is no check to be done- period. I have read now many things to the contrary. Has anyone else had an issue with this? The dealer maintenance check sheet even says, "sealed transmission no check". Is this true or are they blowing smoke??

There is no dipstick like on old vehicles. It is possible to remove the filler plug and check the level the same way you would on the diff. But as a rule there is no reason to do so with these trucks. If there is no leak the fluid should be fine. The only possible exception would be if low from the factory and that would be extremely rare. I'd not worry about it, but if you'll sleep better do it yourself.

The Dealer has the right to say no but so do you.

Do you have an actual complaint with the performance of the transmission that you can demonstrate to the service manager? If not, there is no reason for them to check it and if you wanted that done then you should pay for it.

They should check it for you if they won't then find a shop that will, some shops may charge a bit to check it since it requires a scan tool to read trans temps but once the trans is at the correct temp it's as simple as removing a plug and checking if fluid runs out or not.

I just thought that there seems to be a chance of low fluid from the factory- from what I read here. You would think Toyota would address that especially upon request. So, to a Tranny Shop I go!!
