    Started framing yesterday. $6 a stud so need another payday before I can finish up the back wall. Might start moving electrical stuff around today and finish the rough opening for the closet door, might not.

    In other news, 10/3 romex (100ft) is over $100 cheaper on Amazon then at my local homedepot. Glad I looked as that was a big sigh of relief. Still $215 but thats better than $330.

    10/3 ?--is this for your 220volt stuff? I thought residential standard wiring was 12 or 14 guage

    Stove better not be 10. More like 8 or even 6 if it’s one of those double ones.

    10/3 for a 30 amp dryer. 12/2 for a 20 amp washer. 14/2 for lighting circuits. Stoves should be 6/3 for 50 amp.

    Don’t forget about the length. If the run is greater than 30ft you should use 8 gauge wire. 65ft-100 ft 6 gauge. Etc.

    Personally being an electrician I wouldn’t run anything smaller than 8 GA for that run even if it was connected right at the main panel.

    The other side of this wall is a bathroom. The cement that fell through the metal wire mesh of the tub wall tiles fell on and buried the wires. This was my last circuit to complete my house wiring update project. I obviously could not pull the wires, they wouldn’t budge but at the time I didn’t know why. I decided to pull the box and that’s when I discovered the wire embedded cement. A few moments with a hammer and cold chisel and they were free. Easy fix with a little diamond plaster. Will touch up after work tomorrow and hopefully paint before bed.

    I really like this box, screwed right into the stud. First time seeing, had told a buddy years ago I wish they’d invent this exact thing.

    I’m not a big fan of plaster walls but I will say repairing plaster is way quicker than Sheetrock. No need to mud/sand 2 or 3 times, just work it until she firms up and wipe with a damp sponge. Another positive I’ll give it is it’s hella strong, good luck punching a hole through this stuff.

    Never seen those boxes before (then again I dont do much electrical work). Look a lot better than the normal "old work" ones

    This really cuts down the number of boxes you have to carry, and reduces the tangled mess of new work boxes with nails getting tangled together. I haven’t seen them before but now it will be all I buy. Wow.

    I bought a few extra, probably stronger than a new work box when I think about it. The new standard.

    I've always mistrusted those jankey fold out tabs on the old work boxes. With these the only reason to use them would be if the new outlet has to go between studs. My personal problem with the new screw in style is I've never seen them in the big box stores. That means I have to plan ahead and order them before I start. One big advantage of my new house is its proximity to Lowes and Home Depot, because, you know, my lack of planning ahead. :rolleyes:

    I wouldn’t call it an old work box just for the fact that with this box in an old work application the only way to mount it is directly to a stud. There’s just some times and applications where that’s not just not an option. So unfortunately there’s still a need for traditional old work boxes.

    Haven't used or seen one of these until now. I’ve boxes before that have the step down feature and if your wires are short it’s a real pain in the ass to use or you can’t at all. I’m sure the mounts are solid on them and being able to remove the box in a new work setup can have a lot of advantages. I’ll have to check them out.

    New project... want to add a wall switch for the outlet behind the stove that runs the blower. Which would be the better route to run wire? Straight across from the proposed switch or up and over?

    @Denk

    I would go direct. Open and patch drywall, unless fishing from attic seems easier. Are you boring through the stone? Seems like that is your decider.
