It starts Northeast of Huntsville and goes up into Tennessee, I am not sure of exactly where it starts I always follow @TacoAlaMode

This is the beginning of it, the paved road ends and the water begins.

Got a new daily driver/tow rig today. Much more practical for my needs and now the taco can get silly without worry. On the look out for trailers now.

The latest Mesoscale Discussion from the SPC is out, and it states that a tornado watch is likely to be issued within the next couple of hours for portions of North Alabama and up into portions of East Tennessee and portions of southern Kentucky. Here is the text from the discussion:

SUMMARY… Threat for damaging wind gust and tornadoes continues across central KY and middle TN within Tornado Watch 3. This threat will persist downstream into more of central KY, middle TN, and northern AL, where a watch will likely be needed.

DISCUSSION… Recent observations place the outflow boundary from about 20 miles south of LEX southwestward to just southeast of BWG, continuing southeastward through western TN to about 20 miles southeast of MEM. Numerous shallow but strong/organized cells have developed along this outflow boundary, and lightning has become slightly more frequent over the last hour. General trend with the stronger storms developing within the line is for an initially cell-in-line structure with a strong, more organized updraft. This more cellular structure then relatively quickly trends towards bowing line segments as the outflow boundary continues pushing southeastward. As such, a relatively brief period for tornadogenesis exists before the storms then transition to more of a damaging wind threat. Initial, more discrete development has also occurred sporadically ahead of the line, with a longer duration of more cellular structure contributing to a slightly greater tornado risk. These storms also trend towards bowing line segments as the outflow overtakes them.

This overall pattern is expected to continue for at least the next few hours as the outflow pushes quickly eastward/southeastward. Current motion places the outflow near the edge of Tornado Watch 3 by 1930Z-2000Z. Winds are currently a bit more veered downstream, but vertical shear remains very strong. As such, supercells capable of damaging wind gusts and tornadoes remain possible, and a downstream watch will likely be needed.

    Happy new years!

Had a good time up in Chattahoochee NF last week/weekend. Got home yesterday night thanks to the tornado warnings.

Lots of beautiful scenery, and easy trails, except one deceivingly slick section I lost traction and would slide back a few feet when trying to brake. Luckily I was able to slide into the brush and turn on the grass. Fun times out in the middle of nowhere, in a storm, alone...

    Hi all,

I'm new here, joining the Tacoma world this new year with this beauty:
    IMG_20220102_132455_2.jpg
    IMG_20211227_192554_2.jpg

Been a bit of a journey to find one in Voodoo Blue that wasn't bought immediately, but I'm glad I took this one home!!

Are there any meetups or social events that the North AL group goes to? Bought the truck from Birmingham, but I'm in the Huntsville/Madison area.

So weird.. from 79* to this. Attempted the drive in my Corolla, was a hard no. Grabbed the snow taco and didn’t have any issues.

Welcome to bama y’all, from shorts to the snow shovel.

    From AlabamaWX

SNOW IS OVER: The system that brought snow to the northern half of Alabama has moved on to the northeast early this morning, and all of the snow has ended. We had snow flakes as far south as Demopolis, Grove Hill, and Troy last night, and up in the Tennessee Valley snow amounts of 3-6 inches were reported in a few spots. Temperatures are generally in the mid 30s at daybreak from I-59 south, so there are no travel issues for Birmingham, Tuscaloosa, Anniston, and Gadsden being reported. However, there are icy bridges and other slick spots to the north where temperatures have fallen into the 20s.

Today will be cold and breezy with a clearing sky… the sun should return for most places this afternoon with a high only in the low 40s. The average high for Birmingham on January 3 is 54. Tonight will be clear and cold with lows in the 20s.

REST OF THE WEEK: Tomorrow will be a sunny day with a high in the mid 50s. Dry weather continues Wednesday with highs in the 50s, but clouds will increase by afternoon. Another cold front will bring periods of light rain to the state Thursday; the precipitation could begin as a “wintry mix” over the Tennessee Valley of far North Alabama Thursday morning. Thursday will be colder with a high in the low 40s.

The sky becomes partly to mostly sunny Friday… we begin the day with a low well down in the 20s, followed by a high in the 40s.

THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: Saturday will be dry with a partly sunny sky… the high will be in the 55-60 degree range. Then, Sunday will be a mostly cloudy day with some rain possible, especially late in the afternoon into Sunday night. Sunday’s high will be between 58 and 63 degrees.

NEXT WEEK: Rain ends early in the day Monday, followed by a clearing sky. Most of the week looks dry, although rain could return Thursday night and Friday as another cold front approaches. Temperatures next week look fairly seasonal with highs most days in the 50s, and lows in the 30s. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

WET YEAR: Birmingham’s rain total for the year 2021 was 71.02″… 14.40″ above average. Other rain totals for the year, and the departure from average…

    Mobile 82.97″ (+15.89″)
    Tuscaloosa 67.92″ (+14.40″)
    Huntsville 64.24″ (+9.95″)
    Muscle Shoals 61.35″ (+7.11″)
    Montgomery 56.32″ (+5.16″)
    Anniston 48.71″ (-3.41″)

ON THIS DATE IN 1949: During the late afternoon hours, an estimated F4 tornado destroyed Warren, Arkansas. The tornado killed 55 people and injured more than 250 others. The destruction of the Bradley mill displaced 1,000 employees.
