A couple of Fordson tractors at Bickle Camp

 

Looks like fun.

 

The mid 80’s 740A had the beep. And a sweet exhaust note. Only thing that sounded better to me was the de Havilland Beaver. The old 562 was quiet enough that you could sleep through it. Obviously not Detroit 2-stroke powered.

I loved the sound of the ‘Ol Allison v12’s circa WW2 on Frac pumpers. They used to have to stake down them Rascals just to stop ‘em from walkin’ & bustin’ iron.

 

I opened this carb up and it’s surprisingly clean. I did order a bowl gasket for it though, it’s toast. Also need some hose for the accelerator pump.

 

Is this block fucked?

Wollared out hole for the exhaust flange bolt.

Why couldn't these be in the head instead of the block?

Open for suggestions.

i guesd i got nothing to lose. I think i'll be drilling out all 4. someone before me used the cross thread methode instead of lockwashers.

 

Ouch...

I used to repair air tools that had fallen on the floor, they would land on the handle and tear the threads and sometimes bits of the aluminum tool out.

I would use epoxy to build the broken edge back up so I could use a uni-bit or stone to make the hole round and then could start a regular bit. Drill, tap and install an insert like below (far superior to a heli-coil) with red lock-tite or epoxy depending on how much aluminum was missing.

I repaired dozens of them and only one ever came back with the insert ripped out and this time with the head of the tool shattered -- workers can break a good anvil with a plastic hammer it seems.

It is a pity that being stupid isn't more painful...

 

Pretty much the route I'm going. I got some hi temp epoxy on the way. I'll just drill and tap and put no more than 8-10 ft/lbs of torque on the bolt.

That looks like something I need , mower tires are a p-i-a.

The second line of the Amazon listing actually says "handy as hell!", you have to admire good ad copy people.

 

Should've gotten the 40hp version...great balance though (and yeah I had the anti-collapse bar installed)
Gave my dad half of his "Christmas stump removal wishlist...lots of hand digging, cutting, sawing and we did get it out and moved back into the woods.

 

Before I found this tool I used a mini c clamp with a small scrap of leather, but it tends to mar up the rim paint if it's fresh. This tool is much gentler on fresh paint, but you still have to be careful

 

I use my International 140 as a bead breaker on the mower tires.
