So I guess all those people that said the New Frontier was going to take massive numbers of sales away from the Tacoma were wrong, who would have guessed.

To be fair, I don't recall anyone saying that the new Frontier was a Tacoma killer -- not even close. I did feel that it had the potential to double Frontier sales -- and possibly more. It may even catapult the Frontier into the second best selling small truck. Take a ton of sales from the Tacoma? Pretty unlikely at this point. But grab a big share from the other players? That is looking very plausible.

Its been happening endlessly for years, just wait till the Ridgline comes out, just wait for the redesigned Colorado, just wait for the new Ranger, just wait for the new Frontier...

Ha! That is just not gonna happen. Look at the sales from the most recent quarter. This is all truck sales, of course, so you have to separate from the full sized trucks.

    Tacoma: 51,889
    Ford Ranger: 15,057
    Honda Ridgeline: 10,483

But look at this: Nissan Frontier: 22,635. Taking share from everyone else, for sure. Maybe a few Tacomas here and there but still not even half of the Tacoma's sales.

At this rate, the Frontier will be clearly number 2 and the Ford Maverick (when they can start making them) will be number 3 -- maybe even number 2 when all is said and done.

By the way, look at the Tundra (17K). The new Tundra could be a huge factor for Toyota. I am surprised the numbers are that high for such an old truck. Will be interesting to see when the new one comes out and hits full production where it lands on the list.

All fun to think about ... for sure ...

Ford has been solid at number 2 with the Ranger, but with introducing the Maverick they actually are cannibalizing themselves however I think the next Gen Ranger is soon on the horizon too.

100 percent. But looks like Nissan will be number 2. Let's see how that plays out over a full year, with the re-design, etc. The Maverick may pass them all -- except the Tacoma.

Toyota might surprise everyone and build their own unibody front drive mini on turbo 4 cyl Camry platform

I have been wondering that myself too, they could chop the back off a RAV4 and instantly be competitive in the unibody truck market.
