Sent you a PM. You have custom settings.

Sent you a PM. You also have custom settings.

The problem with custom settings is that one little change can change something else. The Toyota program is like an Algorithm. It looks at multiple factors for everything.

I think you'll be very pleased with power increase and throttle response in general, but I feel like mine is more drastically improved in the lower gears. There is a definitive difference in 5th and 6th, but it's not earth shattering. I still find myself downshifting to 5th going up long inclines....but I also drive fairly aggressively. I don't know if I'm seeing any measurable increase in fuel efficiency....I have so much fun driving it now, that I doubt it. I'm running slightly larger tires and have about 350 lbs of extra gear on the truck.

Overall, I highly recommend. Going back to stock would be miserable.

    Hi All.

So, as it's after the holidays... have to ask if there is any expected timing yet for this? I'm strongly leaning towards joining the crowd and having the Pro tune done for my truck, but the engineer in me would like to see the data. Will you be posting the Pro Tune vs. the stock tune? And for stock tune, would that include the latest TSB (-0092 I think?)

    Thanks in advance!

They load the update before the pro tune. Trust me the pro tune is 100% better than stock. Linear shifting, holds speed better, throttle response way better. Also if you regear it can tune for that as well.

Something to consider is that the Dyno won’t measure drive-ability. While I’m confident the tune will produce performance gains in the form of HP and TQ (and that will be great), the real benefit of the tune is no more throttle lag, no more gear hunting, linear response, etc. There is no way I’d still have my truck if there wasn’t a tuning option. And as far as tunes go, KDMAX Pro is by far the best out of the …I don’t know… 20 or so tunes I’ve tried. I’ve been tuned since the end of ‘17. Well worth the cost to upgrade especially compared to the much more expensive upgrade options out there that don’t provide (in my humble opinion) near the same return on investment.

    Well said! Thanks!
Drivability is the reason for the tune.
Dyno is scheduled, but it is not as important as drivability.

How would the tune change if, for example, I went to 4.88 in my AT truck? I'm considering doing this.

Another unrelated question: I noticed with version 6 of the tune that when I was cruising, and hit the gas about 1/2 way down or so, the RPMs would increase and then immediately drop down by about 250rpm so. It seems to do this in any gear under under acceleration. I'm assuming it's done this way to improve throttle response. I did not notice it when the truck was running factory software. After I got the flash to Pro, I noticed the truck seemed to stop doing this on the 3hr45m drive home. Now, a week or so later, it seems to be exhibiting this behavior again. Is this expected, what's its purpose, and should it still do it with the Pro version of the tune? I'm happy to get a video of the behavior if needed or anyone is curious.

I agree the Pro is so far the best option although i still experience throttle lag at wot. But sometimes it feels like forever until it finally kicks into passing gear.

Well, I do understand the drivability aspect of this entire thread for sure. I've had my truck for about 3 years now, during which time I have also still had my prior vehicle - a BMW 325Xi - and up until about 2 weeks ago I was splitting my time / mileage between the two fairly evenly. But whereas the BMW now has about 260K miles on it and is (again) in need of some wear & tear oriented repairs the cost of which nearly exceed its value, my truck is now getting 99% of my mileage... which means I am really beginning to notice the lack of responsiveness when caught up in stop & go action at the normal choke points along my commute since I haven't had any BMW driving days to break them up and make me forget about them.

Don't get me wrong, I love my truck, and 99% of the time I'm driving it I have no complaints. But when I'm trying to merge from 128 to RT3 every night through a mile of multi-lane, stop & go stuff, I really need the truck to go when I tell it to go - without it needing to take a few seconds to think about it first. Which is why I have been doing a lot of reading on this topic and am encouraged by all of the favorable comments and reviews coming forth from those who have had one of these tunes installed, and to-date I think I'm 95% of the way to saying yes to it.

I guess my inquiry about the timing for the dyno is just me looking for something quantitative to get me the rest of the way there.:typing:

Seen a few inquiries about dyno charts...I'm getting tuned this weekend and will be headed to the dyno in a few weeks after it has time to learn/settle. I'll throw the charts up when I have them.

I had the chance to meet up with Kreg aka PapaRee and had the KDMax Pro installed in my 2020 Tacoma. What a difference!! Throttle response has improved 100%. Eliminated the lag. Also shifting is so much smoother. It doesn’t hunt for gears anymore. Completely satisfied and Kreg is very knowledgable. I would recommend to anyone wanting to improve the performance of their 3rd gen Tacoma to go with KDMax Pro. You will not be disappointed!

    Just a heads up!
You will need to have gear lock files to get accurate dyno runs. Don't want to see you waste your money on bad dyno runs.

I've had the 6.0 premium 91 octane tune with max throttle response since it first came out and was curious how the pro tune compares if anyone can give me some insight.

I went from the same-KDMax prem. max throttle to the KDMax-Pro Sport throttle. You won’t be disappointed. It’s worth the upgrade price to get the improvements- feels like it “pulls” better, throttle is smoother/less jerky, shifting is smoother, and there is octane learning.
Going from 6.0 isn’t as big a change as going from stock, but to me it’s worth it. We were able to make all the improvements that people asked for and were available to adjust in Vftuner. My truck gets better the more I drive it- learns in a good way- unlike stock.

I've heard it helped the bottom end a lot but is the top end still as strong as the premium 6.0? I like how strong the power comes in around 4000 rpm and don't wanna lose that, thanks!
