I'm looking for some help diagnosing a noise. I'm a first time truck owner and I bought my 95 manual from a friend in October. The previous owner didn't drive it much and I doubt he ever drove it over 50mph so he may not have heard it. I had it checked out by a mechanic before purchase and there were no issues or concerns. I noticed a vibration noise when I started driving it on the highway. I had the same mechanic check it during the inspection and he was able to reproduce the noise but unable to find the source.

It only happens when the speed is over 50-55mph and it's coming from the front as best I can tell. It sounds louder when it's windy. I know these can be tricky, but any input or help would be much appreciated.

Hopefully the attachment works. It's a video of the sound.

    That was fast. Couple questions.

Is this something you've dealt with before?
    How do I confirm this?
Is it something I can fix?
If not, do you happen to know how to address it?

Sorry for any dumb questions, I'm trying to learn.

Just my initial guess. Take your door panels off and look for any tears in the plastic rain barrier. Can just remove it in most cases; mine have been gone for years.

Ok. Thanks! I'll check that out.

Do you know a good tutorial for removing the door panels?

Weather has been bad here, so I haven't been able to do anything yet. Hoping I'll get a good day this week.

Wondering if anyone has ever had issues from removing the plastic rain barrier or not.

Why is the video a .zip file? Please upload that video on YouTube.

I watched the video and I did hear what sounded like a high pitched hum or vibration, but it could be any number of things.

Here's a video showing the door panel removal:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P6K3W9E-rOU

The plastic sheeting is attached to the door with a sticky (butyl?) adhesive, it can fight you a bit if it's cold. Heating it up with a blow dryer can make it a bit more pliable. I don't think you'll have any issues though, it's pretty straightforward. If you think the sound is coming from the door I'd also check the weatherstripping, I'd imagine that it also helps to dampen the wind noise at highway speeds.

Honestly, it sounds more like its coming from in front than the doors, but it's hard to tell and it can't hurt to check.

Thanks for the video. Thats helpful. I'll check the weatherstripping as well.

Lol. That's not a bad description. Thanks for the search link. I'll look through it. Glad to know it's not just me. My original search didn't get me any of those results, but again I didn't know exactly what I was searching, so this may help.

Sorry. I took the video on my phone and saw only the zip file option for uploading. I'm new here, so I didn't know YouTube is the preferred source. I'll do that from now on and try to be less sketchy.

Does the truck have a roof mounted light bar? The noise doesn't seem like a typical door sound. I'd also suspect elsewhere.

    3rz.
I have been seeing ball joints as a common response. It's in my list of things to check, but I don't know how yet, so I'll have to learn how.
