Considering a lot of people have reported that iridium plugs were not the best for 4.0 maybe at 50,000 they started acting up. Now with new plugs it might become reliable. Hoping it gets resolved. Good luck

Well, you could be right? All i know is that my key does have a chip in it. (Made a spare and it doesn't start the truck, but it doesn't set off an alarm or any lights, it simply doesn't start the truck)

My truck came with ngk iridium's and I've changed them out multiple times without a problem. They hardly even look worn at 50k. I see cars all the time with iridium's at 150k and there's only one plug misfiring. LMFAO, every time I'm thinking (how the f did these plugs last sooooo long?)

This is interesting. I have a 2013 and it only came with one chipped key and a valet key. But the valet key will start the truck lol. So makes me wonder if ive got another key hidden in the truck somewhere

When we have a mystery issue on a motorcycle, we call it a grimlin.

Often people just get rid of the bike after giving up

Does it have a remote starter?

Old school remote starters required the spare chip key to be hidden in the vehicle

My unchipped key doesn't start the truck, but it also doesn't set off any light or alarm.

I did buy my truck ised with low mileage.

I may have to start doing some digging under the dash and such. The whole interior has already been removed at one point, so there cant be many other places its hiding if its there

Look in the middle of the dash to the right of the clock, if you have an immobilizer there will be a red vehicle icon with a key in the middle of it that will flash when there's no key inserted.

According to the brochure immobilizer is standard equipment on v6 4wd trucks.

So when i put the valet key in and this goes away, that means its sensing another key somewhere right?

Key with no chip. Just a copy of the chipped key. I thought it wouldnt be able to start the truck, but mine has always worked. The light bulb came on today and now i think i might have another chipped key hidden somewhere. The truck only came with one chipped key and one unchipped key, but they both work the same

Interesting, mine came with 2 chipped keys.
I don't see how an unchipped one would start the truck unless there's no immobilizer or it has a bypass for a remote start installed.

I bought mine used so thats why i only got one. But yeah im a little stumped too. It definitely has an immobilizer. I have swapped ecus and had to go through the relearn process for that so it would actually start.

As far as a bypass what do those look like? I have worked on this thing quite a bit both under the hood and in the fuse panel in the cab and ive never noticed anything out of the ordinary, but then again maybe i just wasnt looking for the right thing

Not sure what the actual bypass would look like, I've never owned or installed a remote start.
A remote start should be easy to spot looking under the dash by the steering column, most of them I see are poorly installed and have wiring tied in everywhere.

I wonder this too, i have seen those grey "valet" keys on Toyota's but they still have chips in them.

Yeah, you are NOT “supposed” to be able to copy the Gray key.
As in make a master, you need the Black to make a New key.

Rumor has it, the right people can make a copy of the Gray key.
But, I don’t know that as a fact.
