Looks like they're tree risers for guiding tree branches up and over your cab as you pass by/through.

Limb risers… but NM does not have nearly dense enough vegetation to warrant them.

Well I too thought they were silly, until I had a Cottonwood limb wipe out my windshield on a bird hunt along the Bosque just off the Rio Grande. Yes they are call limb risers. I'll have to respectfully disagree with you Corprin, I use them on a regular basis.

Just sharing my new to me Habitat. Typically something way out of my budget Brand New but my good friend/ climbing partner is moving back to Europe and selling his 2017 Taco and made me a friends only deal on the habitat I couldn't pass up. Glad to have been pointed to this thread and stoked on all the inspiration and info contained in it!

Lots of plans for the Habitat and will post up upgrades as they come.

Any of y'all know the difference between the 500/500r or 600/600r habitat models? The website says the 500r and 600r are for the 2nd gen taco while the 500 and 600 are for the 1st and 3rd. I emailed them but got a reply "r is for the ranger and frontier" and they glossed over my question.

I've got a habitat on my long bed 2nd gen that I'd like to sell, but I want to have my info correct.

EDIT: A better question would be have any of you taken your habitat from a 2nd gen and put it on a 3rd gen?

    seems pretty well laid out?

500 vs 600 is bed length.

I don’t know of anyone that has moved one from gen 2 to gen 3.

    5' [500]: Colorado/Canyon 2011-2021, Tacoma Gen 1 1995-2004, and Tacoma Gen 3 2015-2021

    5' [500G]: Gladiator 2020-2021

    5' [500R]: Ranger 2020-2021, Frontier 2005-2021, and Tacoma Gen 2 2005-2014

    5.5' [550R]: Tundra Gen 2 2007-2021, Ram, F150, Silverado/Sierra, and Titan

    6' [600]: Tacoma Gen 1 1995-2004, Tacoma Gen 3 2015-2021, T100 1993-1998, Tundra Gen 1 2000-2006, and Colorado/Canyon 2011-2021

    6' [600R]: Ranger 2020-2021, Frontier 2005-2021, and Tacoma Gen 2 2005-2014

    6.5' [650]: Tundra Gen 2 2007-2021, Ram, F150, Silverado/Sierra, and Titan

Ya I've seen that, it's more about what makes the R vs no R different. Internal width? pre-drilled mounting holes? height from bed to over cab? I'm the type of person that likes to know why. Someone will also inevitably ask "will this fit my 3rd gen" and depending on the difference the answer might be "yes, but..."

My assumption is cab height. The bed sides in the third gen are taller so you could put a 2 on a 3 but not a 3 on a 2. But you’d also have extra gap above the cab.

It's a little tent skirt thats always there on mine, you can kinda see it in the first pic. that skirt really doesn't want to go up and over back into the shell. Mine is the older "HD" green canvas so they may have changed it on the newer ones? I cant get the lid to close with it inside, could just be the extra material preventing it from closing properly.

I did just get a reply from them and they told me it's a typo and the 2nd gen Tacoma should be a 500/600, not 500r/600r.

    Ahh it’s just the skirt

yeah I think mine is permanently pointed up from being closed. The grey ones are a bit thinner material I believe

I had the green and now the gray tent. When I picked mine up they warned me to do a fold to get it back away from the seal to prevent damage. Having had one tent damaged and replaced already… don’t want to go through that ever again.

    That pic makes me shudder.

It took a bit to “train” the little flap. But if you do a hospital corner on the ends, then use some material off the main hoop area to “pin” the flap down you’re golden.

If my truck was out of storage I’d send a couple pics of what I mean. This is the best I can do.
