I agree with most of what you posted except this. You get a slow leak while away from your home or garage and can't check the level or add a quart and you will finally understand the problem.

I am going to wait until some brave soul gets one of these and tries it to see what fits. I suspect the right side dipstick makes the most sense for US left hand drive models since the steering shaft might interfere with a left dipstick. Hard to know if there is other interference that might be a problem. It would help to view the dipstick in place on a 'Runner, Land Cruiser, or FJ to get a sense of how it needs to be routed and to figure out how to secure the dipstick tube in the engine bay. I can't really get my truck into my 1-car car closet (garage) in the winter anyway. The Vette owns that space and doesn't come out when there is any hint of snow and salt... like now.

This thread has been helpful. Quote, "Dealer service tech was trying to tell me the same thing, but no Toyota didn't change to a sealed transmission right away on the V8 w 5 speed.

    Quote, "Just an FYI,

2003, the V6 had a 4 speed trans, it had a dipstick, the V8 had the 5 speed trans, it had a didpstick and still uses the same transmission fluid that the 4 speed uses.

2004, the V6 still has the 4 speed and dipstick, the V8 still has the 5 speed but it was the first to have the sealed transmission and no dip stick and the fluid changed to the WS fluid.

2005 and onward both the V6 and the V8 came with the sealed 5 speed transmission and no dipstick."

Looks like it'd probably fit, just looking at my motor bay. I'm curious to know if it'd interfere with the SAIS system on the 2.5 gen Tacomas, however.

It’s getting juicy in here. I emailed my parts guy to see if he can still get those parts and how much it would cost me. Now don’t sign me up to be the first lab rat on this project, I still have a ton of other crap I need to do to the truck first :pout:

I just checked availability and price on the official Toyota parts site where they let you pick a local dealer for pickup. At my particular dealer they were available in 24-48 hours for the prices as shown. I saw a couple of misc parts in the diagram that I am not sure come with these or not, like a dipstick o-ring. I did not place an order, just put 'em in the cart to get a good snip photo.

Maybe he meant on hand? The official Toyota site says they have them. Select your vehicle, in this case 2003 'Runner, then enter a part number. Once you find one you can pick a dealer near you and it will show you the availability and prices. Then add the others. I have ordered a bunch of stuff this way and picked it up at one of my local dealers, Darcar Toyota in Frederick MD, and it has always been accurate and seamless. The selected dealer will also ship them to you, if you want, but that might cost something.

I just emailed him and asked if that was nation wide or on hand, I’ll see what he says. I am not inclined to trust the toyota website, it shows the same thing but I have seen this before where once you order it the dealer calls and tells you they cannot get it. Fingers crossed, otherwise this is going to be a lot more time consuming searching junk yards for a specific model yr 4runner that isn’t already down to a shell

Another thing to note, if you search by part number the pan shows up fine. If you how ever go through the menus and add 03 4runner v8, it shows the WS pan with a different part number, sneaky Toyota is obviously trying to hide these parts from us :D

I have not had that happen, but it would stink for sure. I'll go have a look at Toyota Parts deal. They are also pretty good, but their shipping costs can be pretty heinous.

TPD also has them all, shipping in 1 day or 1 to 2 days. A little cheaper than Toyota.com but there will be significant shipping cost.

“looks like it is no longer available. if i place the order we will never receive it.”

That’s what he told me, and I believe him because they are usually very happy to take my $$ for parts.

Speculating that toyota got rid of those pans for the WS pans. I wonder if we can find any aftermarket coverage for these

I did find some aftermarket pans, while doing my brief search earlier. Only briefly looked at them as well. Did not follow through any more than the glance. There may or may not be. Needs further investigation.

If a tube and dipstick are available, they would not be hard to mock-up and or braze/weld on.

Should sourcing a pan (used or new) with a dipstick be too hard.
