Did some wheel swapping yesterday and the jack that came with my 4x4 is pathetic. Might be ok for a Camry but I had get thick blocks of wood to put it on and barely got the truck high enough to get a wheel off. I don't want to carry a load of lumber in my truck nor an oversized jack for everyday driving. Any recommendations?

    Thanks

The factory jack extends twice its collapsed height. If that makes any sense.. Should be enough for just about any "normal" situation. Also where you are putting the jack under the frame clearly makes a big difference.

Here, random google image to show what Im talking about. When you see the silver sleeve start to move youre only half way.

For rear tires, the stock jack goes under the axle tube and works well enough. For front tires, put a trailer jack foot on the head to spread the load. That enables the jack to be put under the LCA crossmember:

The trick with the stock jack is to put it under the rear axle, not the frame. Then it has plenty of length to lift the tires without any blocks.

    I'm using a 6-ton bottle jack with a 3-inch lift and 33" tires. I don't remember the brand, but I paid ~$40

EDIT To clarify: I also carry a hi-lift with base plate, rock slider attachment, and wheel attachments. I've not needed to use this on my own vehicle, yet.

These work great and have a large base.

This is what I use most of the time in the garage. It's not ideal to bring along day to day though.

I've got an 8 ton bottle jack from HF. Normal price w/o a coupon is $35, think I paid around $28.

I'm looking for an ideal way to jack up the truck to rotate the tires after my last toyotacare service I'm trying to do the routine stuff myself. I usually do oil changes and stuff with ramps and the compact floor jack I had gave up. I'm looking to get one side of the truck up to move the tires front to back. a set of jack stands and a bottle jack is what I had in mind. I am just not sure where all the jack points I can use are.

On the third gen there's a nice jack point in the middle of the truck under the motor behind the skidplate. For the rear I just jack up from the pumpkin and then pop 2 jack stands on either side n the axle itself to support the rear.
