Ditch lights got jacked last night. Anybody have suggestions for anti-theft hardware to prevent this from happening again?

dang that sucks. that's why i have cheap Amazon ones instead of uber expensive BD's.

maybe loctite red 271 in the thread will help? then you'd have the problem of making it harder on yourself if you want to swap them out.

Main reason why I haven't pulled the trigger on ditch lights. I've seen some post where they messed up the fender/hood trying to steal the ditches.

    I hate thieves.

They stole your ditch lights...but did they steal your bed mat?

You can get tamper resistant screws/nuts/bolts. They will have an uncommon head or nut that requires a specific tool to remove. (Kinda like wheel locks)

But you can buy a security bit set that removes most of them. Better than nothing, but easily defeatable if the thief is determined.

May be best to keep them off until you need them and a quick install when you do. I've seen owners get their entire grill torn out.

^^Pretty simple yet kinda ingenious. Probably wouldn't work out so well for the side mount pod housing, though.

I have attached things like my expensive chartplotter on one of my boats just using the Security Torx but place a cap cover on it so the head of the fastener is out of site. IT can be defeated but it might just make it less convenient when they can't see what fastener it is until they pry it open and then they would need a security torx bit. THere's a company that makes locks for this purpose but they would look hideous on a ditch light.

Tamper-Resistant Allen drive or Torx drive will slow down most thieves, but not all. If somebody wants your stuff bad enough, they will find a way to get it.

Looks like they bent the shit out of the brackets and just lifted the lights out. I don’t think security hardware would have helped.
