Anyone ever had this issue with their Magnaflow exhaust?

    Wot in tarnation?! :tumbleweed:

Was it mounted too rigid? Looks like it broke at the toes of the weld?

I haven’t taken it off road really. Exhaust is only around 4 years old…maybe 30,000 miles. There had been a rattling for a few months so when it was time for service I told the dealership who said it was a loose heat shield that they tightened. But the rattle was still there. A few days ago I noticed the truck was a lot louder and no rattle. It actually sounds kind of cool but I decided to have a look and saw this…

‘Not sure. And it looks like the garage that mounted it is no longer in business. A victim of pandemic perhaps

But it is rigid, like I can’t move that muffler or that lid to it

I still need to check the warranty on it. I was tired of storing the stock exhaust so I gave it to a scrap yard a little while ago thinking my new exhaust would definitely last

Bought the part online and it sat around for awhile before I had a shop install it

Check with MF, I believe the stainless mufflers have a lifetime warranty that can be honored at any shop that has them.

I’m sure you don’t want to go back to stock… but I have a stock exhaust off my ‘20 short bed with maybe 700 miles on it. I’m in Carroll County. Kept mine with thoughts of one day if I ever sold it, stock brings more trade value. But I’d part with it for say $200. You probably just want to grab a new aftermarket cat-back for couple hundred more, but thought I’d offer it.

Thanks everyone. Just discovered this yesterday and need to check my warranty, probably dig up an old email receipt. Odd thing is that I kind of like the deep sound now but it’s pretty loud, sort of vibrates the seats, and I’m sure my new lay friend won’t like it. And stuff could get stuck in hat big hole…

A few additions to make me feel cool.
This is 100% a failure on magnaflow. I am sure they will take care of it. This was a failure in the manufacturing process. I am sure they have a robot that welds them and the program was slightly off and did not weld the cap to the body. Or the weld was to cold and got no penetration. I can’t imagine they would not send you a new one quickly.

Here is a picture of the warranty from the one I just put on my Tundra. Even if you can't find it, contact MF directly and send them the pictures of your muffler. The failure being 100% obviously a manufacturing defect should get you an authorization. They may even ask for it to be sent back rather than trashed so they can have a look at the weld failure. Warranty says it can be presented at "any participating dealer".
