I believe both cables have come off the inside panel handle and I might of engaged the child lock also while putting the rear drivers side door panel back on. Ya I went all in on the stupidity scale! I have the rear seat out, and plates and door screws off. Found the green wire pulling on it does nothing. When I engage the lock electronically it sounds like a machine gun. Not strong enough I guess to pull the panel off from the inside. So I'm at a road block. Anything on how to fix this guys? Thanks Al

You have to get the trim panel off unless you are able to manually unlock the door. Try pulling on the white cable, its the lock.

I've seen doors get stuck closed if you mix up the green and white cables while attaching the inner handle.

If all else fails and your down to last resorts. Can you sacrifice the speaker to get in to lower section of door? Dissect it piece by piece to gain access?

Hey @Old green toyota .... Thanks for chiming in... This has got to be right up with one of the top frustrating things I've ever done.

Well I finally got it. The back left seat out definitely helped. I powered down the window and took my trim tool to the upper lip of the panel. I got it off enough to where I could see the back of the handle. Green wire was off, and white wasn't seeded properly. So I light tug on the white cable, and the door opened. Child lock was not on. So it was never that. It's Friday and a cold one awaits me.

I was so close to taking a pry bar to it and just pay for a new panel I was that frustrated. Glad I took my time. It's off now thankfully

How come the door can't be opened from the outside in this case? Because the door was locked?

While reinstalling my panel, both cables came off the inside door mechanism. Green one was off totally and the white one was not on the channel all the way. Thought it may have been the child lock engaged also, but found out after the was open it wasn't a factor. After getting the top of the panel away I could see the white cable so I pulled it and it opened. I can't stress to my fellow TW's peeps... MAKE SURE THE CABLES ARE SOLIDLY INTO PROPER PLACE WHEN PUTTING THE PANEL BACK ON. You will regret it if they aren't trust me.

What happened when u tried from the outside? Just felt like the handle was loose?

I've seen a few of these threads when I first came on tw. Scared the hell out of me haha. Enough for me to even mark the color locations (green & white), the first time each panel came out haha.

It just felt like it was locked. And yes I too scanned these threads for answers and most had me feeling like I was screwed. But they all got them off somehow and never took any pics for this dumby lol. I've done 3 of my Tacoma speaker installs/reinstalls now. I guess I got a little to cawky on the last door. It seems everytime I do a audio upgrade its -10c outside and I'm always rushing to stay warm. I asked for a heated shop for Christmas again this year. The round old red man blew me off once again!

Am I the only one completed confused by this thread? White green cables, door panels, seats being removed, and doors that don’t open? What is going on here?

The inner door handle is operated via cables. They are color coded. Handle is always green, white is always lock.

I’m going to take a guess at what went on. OP was doing something unknown that required taking the door panel off. While doing this thing, the steel cables that are part of the door latch and lock mechanism came loose for some unknown reason. After closing the door it could no longer be opened. While closed the door panel cannot be removed because the seat is in the way. Thus seat removal was required to get the panel off and reattach the cables. Am I close?

OP, why did you do this?

Yep i know that pic, it was in my dream the last two nights! lol
Now imagine the green one came off and the white was barely in the slot.
So the White one was not allowing it to unlock and the Green one was not engaging

Does a speaker install involve the removal of these cables?
