    Hi guys and gals,

The wife, dog and I are on a road trip down the West coast and are about to stat inland. We're currently near Morro Bay and are planning on staying in Joshua tree for a few nights in a week or so. We have a travel trailer and we plan on only staying at one campsite to use as base.

We know nothing about Joshua Tree and would love to hear which campsite/area you'd recommend.

    TIA

Joshua tree is great especially if you have not visited before. If your combined length is 25 ft, you most likely won't be able to camp in the park. That being said, I don't have a trailer and have only tent camped at jumbo rocks and hidden valley. There's BLM land on the outskirts of the park, and I think some RV parks depending on your trailer length. Hope you have a good trip.

Check out http://www.joshuatreelake.com/. Really clean spot and you can park your RV and really nice people run the park and they got nice amenities.

Either dispersed camping outside the park, if you want to stay inside the park I HIGHLY recommend Jumbo Rocks Campground.

    Good luck!

Another vote for Jumbo Rocks — we stayed at site #97 for a couple nights last month and had a great time.

I like to camp near the abandoned mines but your trailer probably won't make it (fairly rugged and remote)

Yeah the TT is new so I don’t want to shake it to bits in the first few months :)

I’d be interested in knowing more about the abandoned mines. I was looking at maybe stopping by the Calico ghost town but it looks like a proper tourist trap, I’d prefer to find something that hasn’t been fixed up.

Indian Cove is another option for camping in the park. There is a really cool hike called Rattlesnake Canyon there. It is separate from the rest of the park though.

Another hike I highly recommend while you're there is Chasm of Doom. It's not marked, look on YouTube for directions on how to find it. Really awesome if you're not claustrophobic.
